how do you apply your glitterdust

A girl came in yesterday to have her fingernails done and while she was there she showed me her toes (done at a different salon). Boy they were gorgeous - the big toe was three shades of gold and bronze glitterdust separated with gold striping tape and the other four were just plain bronze coloured varnish - really effective. She says she has the same design on each year for her holiday and they definitely get noticed.

I am totally inspired again and I got to thinking that I have a few pots of glitter dust and mixer but don't use them and it seems a shame to have the products just sitting there. I woz just wondering if you have any good tips on applying this product and do you use brushes to mix it and move it around? We did this at college but I'm having a bit trouble remembering from that long ago! Just dying to get started so any help would be appreciated.

as im a beginner, i dont know if this is the correct way, but i use clear nail varnish and then sprinkle or dip my wet nail into the glitter. Always seems to work for me hun.

Like i say im a beginner, and this is probably completey wrong, but it seems to work for me hun.

P.S. dont forget to put a piece of paper underneath if you are sprinkling as you dont want to lose it.

Hi Wyliekit!


I suppose we all have our own method of applying glitters, i myself mix the glitter with a my powder in little mixing pots then i use a differnt brush and apply it this way, or i dip my ball of product in my glitter to achieve a similar sort of result i.e. clear powder/ white/ pink depending which effect i want from it.

Maybe someone else has a better method yhey can tell you of, anyway hope this helps.

Glitterdust application a la college method is...
Take a fine detail brush or similar,
Dip into mixer...let a bead form on the tip of the brush,
Roll bead into your glitterdust...
Be careful not to overdo the glitter-rolling or you wont be able to manipulate the glitter very well on the nail and the it will clump.
Add a good finishing sealer.

Btw, dont use your best brush for this... keep one especially for it as you will need to clean it in acetone.

Those toes sound lovely, would love to have seen cos Im not usually too keen on this myself.

I am kicking myself as even though i didnt do them she said I could take a piccie. However as I was having (another) blonde day I forgot! I am going to ring her before she goes on her holidays tomorrow and will ask if she can take a foto for me and I will post it in a couple of weeks.
