How many coats?

How many coats do those of you who use shellac do? I know you got taught two but do you find you have to apply three to some or all colours as some are lighter and to prevent chipping or peeling?

Two, but for some very sheer colours or layering you can do three THIN layers

I find to get good coverage on some colours you do need three coats but if it's got good coverage in 2 coats then I'll just do 2
