Not everyone on benefits is the same so please don't tar us all with the same brush!

I have two age 2 & 5 I've spent £50 each up to now will be buying a couple more but not spending a lot, they will appreciate anything as I've never gone over the top they don't know any different. My oldest has asked for a lego house and plane (£50 & £60) which he will not be getting! Who spends that type of money on lego?? I have bought him smaller sets of lego £3.99 which I know he will love just as much

Legos an investment lol
Buy him it he will love it for years

Too Damn right.. lol

It is all so commercialized, and it's not even a religious festival strictly, as we don't know when Jesus was actually born, the Christians nicked it from the pagans, it's a pagan festival strictly christians thought they would use it to celebrate the birth of jesus.. so what's it all about ?? It's just to symbolize present exchanging as the 3 wise men did. That's all.

I am hoping mine disown me so I can get my **** done ;)

I wasn't tarring anyone with any brush! All I meant was that you can't live a lavish lifestyle on benefit money unless I'm missing something? I've been on them myself, So they must be living off payday loans etc.

There is always someone that has to take offense to a comment, or complains that a thread has gone off topic in the "chit chat" forum which really is just a little fun, or is reported for some form of gross misconduct (saying BOO to loudly!) and then wants a post to be closed because one person thinks it is unacceptable to read anothers opinion .... ........ I really don't know why.... YAWNNNNN! It really makes you wonder how people get on in the real world! :irked:

This year we've averaged about $140 ish each kid,(3 kids) doesn't sound like a lot but I've got a seasonal job in Toys R Us ;) , so I'm benefitting with staff discount , sales and military discount ,

If it wasn't for that , after immigrating from Europe to USA this summer we flat out would not have been able to afford anything this year!

Great a lot of old jakeys and heroin addicts sizing up the gaff for the next score, no thanks!

I'm not a mum.... Yet... But my mum has always spent around £250 each on both my sister and myself.

My mum spent a lot of years in a low paid job as a single mum and would save all year for Christmas, but we didn't get much. Both of us appreciated whatever we got. My mum has worked her behind off and been promoted along the years and now earns 4 times what she did. We are allowed to chose our own presents, as she would rather us get something we need rather than a load of stuff we don't.

I've always appreciated whatever my mum bought, and even now if she was to reduce what she spent to £10 I wouldn't be bothered. But my mum would rather spend her money on is now and see us enjoy it that save it all and it just be inherited.

I think the amount anyone spends is up to them, it's a personal matter. So whether it's £1000 or £10, BUT I also think it's up to the parents to ensure the children appreciate whatever they get and it not just being all about money spent. It's hard I'm this day an age where people want it all and want it now. I for one when I have a child will spend according to what I can afford to but educate that's it's a privilege and not a right to have whatever it is they have. X

Why would you buy an iPad for a 4 year old erelevant of what you earn !

My dear old Mum wants to buy the funniest presents this year! She has developed onsieitis! She seems to think everyone needs one:lol: I really don't want anything at all. Having her at the dinner table this year will be priceless. She had been so ill a while back!

It babysits your child when you can't be bothered I suspect! Did you not see those fisher price baby seats for iPads in the paper? Look it up. There is all pottys with iPads, frankly I would be tempted if I had a child that young again it's easy to forget how tiring they are.

I just think its awful when kids sit there with an argos catalogue and tick pages and pages of stuff that they want! Why would you even want to encourage such greediness?!

To be fair.... I would do that as a child! There was no internet then and I would get so excited when they got the new edition of it!!!

I wasn't greedy I think that's a bit judgemental of you to say to be honest. it was a fantasy as I knew I couldn't have everything I had ticked, I knew we didn't have the money. No one encouraged me to do it, I just did and I'm sure my parents (who ignored me when I pointed it out to them what I had circled) took a sneaky peak at what I had circled for inspiration when wasn't around!!

I used to do it with the Xmas TV guide as well as we never had sky! All the films I wanted to see over Xmas.

A child can have dreams can't they?????

Lol. That is what children do.

I sat there when I was little, got the catalogues out, cut out what I
liked in there and stuck it on paper and made my own little catalogue.

They do it at school and nursery too.

Jesus there are some miserable grinches out there.

God forbid children tell you what they would like for xmas even if they pick out 1 present.

My children also write a letter to santa each year. Is that being greedy.

Let children be children for godsake. Gone are the days where you get coal and oranges in the stocking at the end of the bed!

Agree. Think some of the ppl on here moaning about spending £200+ on their children at Xmas wouldn't think twice about spending that on a pair of designer shoes or something for themselves!.

My children are the most important thing in my life, why wouldn't you buy them what they ask for, aslong as you don't buy them everything and every time they ask for something.
My kids don't get toys through the year so Xmas is the time for them to be spoilt, for 1 day!

It would only be encouraging greediness if the child threw a hissy fit just because they didn't get what they asked for & THEN the parent went out to buy it just to shut the child up. Siftin through a catalogue isn't encouraging greediness lol its what kids do :)

WHO CAREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

If you want to spend £300+ on your kids thats your choice as a responsible adult!

Do i agree with buying 4 year olds iPads? No course I dont but times are changing and thats what they use in schools to learn. I dont live in Janes house down the road and couldnt care less if she wishes to buy little Evie and James the latest in designer clothes and phones.

I work hard and can indulge my friends and family with gifts if i choose to do so .

I dont think this was started to find out how much we earn or what tax bracket we are on? Because frankly no one cares as long as your household is happy and you can put your feet up and enjoy your day what else should matter?
