I'm new, so I am sorry if this is not where it is meant to be.
My hair was jet black and I wanted it stripped, I went to a hairdressers and got it stripped professionally. When she had finished stripping my hair it was gingery/blonde. I was very unhappy as this is not what I asked for, she told me it was blonde and there was nothing she could do, she told me to come back and pay for some brown highlights but could not afford to.

so I went home and the next day I tried to put over a blonde dye but it wouldnt take it? I tried this 2/3 times but it did not take at all. I ended up dying it brown. A month later I stripped it again by myself, it went back to a horrible horrible ginger, I tried to dye it blonde again but it did not work. How do I get a blonde to take over the ginger colour that comes out? Please tell me!

( just in case you were wondering, I have natural dark blonde/brown hair )

Thanks a lot.

If you went to the hairdressers and asked for your hair to be stripped..but you wouldnt pay to get it recoloured then ginger/patchy is what you are gonna get( i wont go into the whats and whys of stripping as it takes us hairdressers 3 years to understand the theory behind it and its a hard task) ..especially from black.....as you are not a trained hairdresser i think you presumed that by getting your hair stripped it would automatically go to the blonde shade you want..it doesnt work that way....
if you had asked for your hair to be stripped and accepted the offer from the hairdresser to recolour/colour correct your hair with yes a dint in your purse..then you would have had with time the results you may have wanted...you cannot strip without seriousley damgaing your hair in one step from black to blonde..no chance......and diy colours are the worst...
so if i was you i would bite the bullet book in to a salon or your local technical college for colour correction as its very cheap and level 3's will love this job and with time you will achieve what you want....but diy colours, stripping and not carrying on with a professional you will not get what you want no matter how hard you try .

Im surprised you hair hasnt snapped off yet. it is possible to go blonde but is not an overnight process it will take a few attempts. i should know ive had it done.
The best bet is to go to a hairdressers and have a consultation. it is not as simple as just putting blonde over it

I don't want to go to a hairdressers, I have a friend who gives me hair dyes, products ect. for free so would be a lot cheaper, can not afford to go hairdressers, Any other advice?

please listen to peoples advice...try a technical college youll pay about 25 quid for a full colour correction..
I am telling you now (in a nice way)..you havent got a hope in hell getting from your colour to blonde without the help of a hairdresser.....i am not just saying this to gain business for hairdressers but for your own good, the theory behind stripping colour replacing colour pigments and also hair tint cannot lighten hair tint.no way no how.takes us 3 years to learn at least..you are not going to get this done..i promise you .you have had your hair stripped once by a pro and again by yourself..your hair will be over processed and you are going to wreck it even more mate xxxx leave alone

in that case id keep it dark , you will wreck your hair trying to do it yourself. i wouldnt even attempt to strip my own hair and im a hairdresser i would get someone to do it all for me

I agree with the pros, i used to have dark brown/reddy hair and wanted to go blonde, OMG what a mistake! i had orange hair for ages plus i ruined my hair! i did end up with blonde hair eventually but would never do it again! its been almost 2 years since and the bits that snapped off at the front are still shortish, my advice dont do it yourself! get a decent hair dresser to do it, unless you want to end up bald like i almost did!

I went to westrow hairsalon in west park @ leeds.

I wanted highlights doing. my hair is very dark brown. the salon did it, but you couldn't see the highlights.

i went back and they said she should have stripped it first!

They stripped it twice to get all my home done colours out of it, and the work the girl had done the day before. I looked like a carrot top, seriously orange hair.

they then highlighted it and put a toner on it and it was fantastic.

My hair was very dry and brittle afterwards, but the highlights were fab.

It highlights brilliantly now.

sometimes you have to pay for it doing the first time, then you can do it yourself afterwards.

I think your best getting it done pro everytime really. If you start doing it yourself you could mess up all your hairdresser's hardwork or damage your hair.
It would end up costing you more in the long run.

Yep, me doing my own hair cost me my hair :( and it hit my pocket too, i now have a mobile hair dresser cut and colour my hair every 4 weeks for £30 to be honest id pay her £50 she is lovely and does a really good job, plus its nice and relaxing having it done at home, well i have it done at my mother and father in law, so i get a few hours out too (i sound sad but i have a disability and its nice to get out sometimes)
