Just trying to get some feedback from other geeks about doing nails on children and do you have an age that is too young?

I have just gone back to being salon based after taking a few years out to have kids so am in the process of building up a clientele again ie. can't really afford to turn people away.

A lady today wanted to book her two daughters in for acrylic nails - one is 18 and the other is ten!
Anyway I said no to the ten year old (as quite frankly was horrified!) but said I was more than happy to offer polish and gems etc.
The mother said she has had it done in lots of other salons in Yorkshire (they have just relocated) and doesn't understand what the problem is - and that it's ok as her nails are the size of an eighteen year olds!!!

I don't think this makes any difference! I am thinking that a ten year old is definitely not old enough to look after a set of acrylic nails plus the fact that her nails are likely to be more oily and thus more prone to lifting surely?

Anyway, the mother has still booked in the older daughter in for nails (I actually thought she was going to take her business elsewhere as I really was sticking to my guns on this one) and the youngest daughter threw a strop so they manage to persuade the salon owner to book a temporary slot for her in hopes they will change my mind when they turn up!

The oldest daughter is a model and looking to have her hair and nails done every two weeks so if she is happy, will be a regular client. Just don't know what to do??? Help!!

18 year old yes 10 year old are they serious no way not a chance in hell plus your insurance will not cover you what so ever.

This woman is crazy weather the girl had a strop or not it would be a no she's ten years old it's disgusting not good parenting what so ever.I'm shocked to be honest stick to what you know is right polish and gems your doing the right thing x

Ahh thanks that's what I needed to hear! I know I have been out of the industry for a few years but was still horrified!! Just hate it when clients try and bully you! My daughter is only 3 at the moment but I would never let her have nails on at ten! Kids should be allowed to be kids :)

I no of alot of mums who take there daughters to NSS salons at the age of 9/10/11/14 to get acrylic nails done!!! How on earth the NSS salons can do this is beyond me, surely they aren't insured for it

I’m brand new I am
Still currently in school, in my opinion I think a child needs to stay a child as long as possible. I don’t personally think it’s the enhancements that ruin the nails it’s bad nail techs. My niece is 10 and has asked so many times for me to do her nails and I won’t do them until 15. I heard someone tell me they took their daughter (9 at the time) to get enhancements and once they started to grow out she ripped them off. Kids don’t understand the up keep noe do they understand how rough they are on their hands. Kids need to remain kids as long as they can. In my opinion if they want enhancements get them the press ons, but still in my opinion kids are maturing way to fast these days I know 12-13 year old who look like they are 18-19 smh

Don't worry, its not unusual for newbies to get excited at all the lovely info and resurrect old threads ;) . I just didn't want you to think you were being ignored if no one replied. We like to keep threads clear with actual info rather than lots of 'following', 'agree Hun' type responses. Sometimes new Geeks can feel ignored, but they're not :D

Enjoy....You'll need at least one cuppa to keep you company

Sorry, didn't realise you were not from here in the UK  (this is a UK based site, we do have a few Stateside Geeks but not a huge amount).

A cuppa is a cup of tea. You know how us Brits like a cup of tea in every situation ;)
