hi there, I am new to nails and am practicing at home with IBD gel. After using their base coat, I am finding the colour coat is very thin and transparent/watery. Am I doing something wrong here? My ideas?

Thank you

I've just passed my exams - sorted it now, apparently with this brand I have to stir it with a small toothpick to mix it up. I went to IBD directly.

Hi Jackie! Yes they need a stir sometimes but after several uses the formula gets better. I have a stir stick from OPI. I stir almost all my gels before applications before I start my prep that way I ensure no air bubbles. Hth

I found ibd colours far to transparent

I recently bought 1 bottle of ibd for personal use as I loved the colour and couldn't match it with my usual brand. Despite stirring with my stirring stick I still found it looked very thin and watery, even after 3 coats! I bought it for my holiday nails and after a week it had faded and chipped quite a lot. I will be honest and admit I used my other brand base and top coat as I dont intend to switch to this brand, I just love this particular colour, so that might be why it hasn't fared so well.

Strangely enough, I also have a Morgan Taylor nail polish in an almost identical colour and that also doesnt t apply very well, so maybe it has more to do with the colour?! - it's Gala-Vant in ibd. Anyone else had this problem?

Ok so gave it a good stir and came out better! Still practicing.

Which brand base and top do you use?

I use Cuccio.

hmm Idk tbh cuccio's formula to me is sorta like gelish just more on the watery side.. the fading probably came from the formula and the exposure to uv rays.. the chipping that's a different story.. perhaps down to application or top coat not sealing (I notice cuccio shrinks back)

I definitely think the UV rays caused it to fade so fast and it's possible the Cuccio base and top coat just weren't compatible with the Ibd. But I used All Cuccio products on my ring fingers and they stayed the same colour with no chipping or shrink back.

Sometimes when I have a random chip it's because I didn't deal an edge all the way with one coat or another.. perhaps revisit your application and product and go slowly to ensure you haven't missed any product anywhere and then see how it holds up.
