Hi,
I've been doing my own nails for a few years now (sculpting long stiletto acrylic nails mostly - those are my works on the picture... so I'm not a total beginner) and I recently decided to train to be a professional nail tech. But because I work in a 3 shifts pattern (early shift, late shift and nights), I won't be able to be trained in a traditional school, unless I find a school which does weekend classes. I live in Manchester, but so far all I found were during the day or evening, but nothing on the weekends. I'm considering online courses too, it looks more and more appealing every day, but I'm just so undecided and confused right now that I really wouldn't mind some advices...
I really want to learn from the best, but I can't afford to quit my job just yet so I can train...
Any advice guys?

There are a lot of educators who do one to one sessions- why not do something like that? The biggest problem with being self taught and practising is you'll find it VERY difficult to get rid of bad habits once they're muscle memory! You'll probably need to do a mani course first as you normally need that as a pre requisite to an acrylic course but mani courses are normally no more than a day long if that. Hope that helps! X

That helps a lot actually. Yeah, that's my only fear about the online courses... even though I've already been practicing the art without training, so I might already have some bad habits...
I'll look into one to one sessions! Thank you for your reply! :)

Why not try somewhere like sweet squared.

I'm sure they'll have an educator in Manchester.

You would start with their beginnners course which is a great introduction to the different facets of the nail, it goes through nail problems, shapes, good practice when painting etc etc so it's a great grounding. It's also just two days.

From there you can ask if you're able to do the L&P course (you might need to do a few more courses first but most are one day courses. The Sweet Squared L&P course is broken up so you can practice between sessions. Two days one week, two days the next session - so it gives you time to sort out work whilst studying.

You also know you have accreditation for insurance purposes. X

White rose college do Saturday courses. They are very good.

Your work is of a very high standard. Get yourself a recognised qualification in nails and you could be up and running at quite a speed :)

Thank you for the tip, I'm looking into it :) All these ideas help me a lot!

Thanks for your kind words! I'm really looking forward to start this career and learn to make nails professionally. Thank for the tip about white rose. :)

Could you use up some of your annual leave to attend a good quality training course? Might be worthwhile if you view it as a long term investment in yourself?

I've been researching for 7 days now, I've created a 'nail school comperison' spread sheet too pros and cons list. Always there to help me :)
I think I decided to go with Creative Academy Manchester, CND training. I worked it out that 3 days out of the 6 training days I'll be on night shift, which means I'll be able to go to the course during the day. I'll use one of my annual leave and I'll be 'off sick' for 2 days :)
I hope I can make it work!
I'll pop in to the training centre tomorrow morning, and try to ask as many questions as I can about the training before I pay. Then I think I'll just start my new life as soon as possible :)
Thank you guys for all your help!!

The Beauty Bar Training Academy offer weekend courses. They are based in Bradford. Hope that helps hun x
