I'm looking for some tanning help, but purely as a consumer as I am strictly a nail geek.

I am having real trouble finding someone who spray tans consistently well. i go to salons and my first, second tan is great then it starts to go downhill. Tan starts to look uneven on my arms and I have darker patches around my wrists and ankles. Is it me or is it the way the tan is being applied?

I scrub really well before going and apply nothing to my skin. I wear loose clothing and take flip flops with me.

I’m being charged usually around £20-£25 for a spray tan and find that the service differs from place to place. In one place I always get sticky feet, hair net and disposable pants, they apply moisturiser to knees; elbows etc and wipe your nails once the tans done. Other places only offer sticky feet. What do you class as standard service? Does it include things i have mentioned above?

I love having a tan but I’m getting sick of inconsistent results. I would love to hear your thoughts.

When you go to the salon do you always get the same person tanning you or different girls at different appointments?
How often do you go and do you leave the spray tan fade off before the next or do you tan over a fading tan?

Have a little search on here I posted a reply last night or the night before , I will pop back in a sec with the link. Hopefully it will answer some of your questions.

I would expect a tan from the same person, using the same equipment and the same products to be fairly consistent. There are some factors though, the first one that springs to mind is hormones, they can affect the way your tan "takes"

There does not seem to be a standard treatment in place, it very much depends on the technicians training and how much the salon is prepared to spend on accessories. Some offer the whole lot, hair bands, sticky feet, paper knickers, nose guards etc. Others offer nothing but the tan (not even a barrier cream)

Sorry you have been disappointed a few times, hopefully you will soon find a technician that tans you beautifully every time. I will edit the link in in a sec

The place I’ve been going to recently is a home salon so it’s been the same girl using the same tan and as far as I know the same spray gun. So I was expecting the same result that I had first time which was flawless.

The other place i go is a tanning salon and there are two different girls that normally work there. I would expect slight differences when being sprayed by different people I suppose it’s like nails no one does a set of nails exactly the same way as someone else, I understand that.

I normally go every week. tan fades gradually and i just exfoliate lightly until the day before I have it redone, then I really scrub using exfoliating gloves so I’ve as little tan on as possible. I also moisturise daily.

thanks for posting the link I'll have a look

Personally I don't use sticky feet, I use a clean towel and paper roll for each client as I personally don't like sticky feet.
I always apply barrier cream to any drier areas like hands, elbows, feet etc etc I don't offer paper knickers as the shape of them are AWFUL! Honestly I can't think of a more obvious tan line if you're likely to be stripping into a bikini in the near future. Instead I ask clients to wear an old pair of knickers or an old black thong and bra if they dont want to go topless. I have hair protectors though which are offered but rarely accepted by my clients.
The uneven tan would be more likely in my view to be to do with old tan still being in place or hormones due to time of month... Try leaving longer between your tans - even a couple of days should make a difference OR 2 days before your tan slather on the baby oil and try not to move for a good half hour, then have a hot bath and SCRUB... make sure you scrub well the day before too but not on the actual day of the tan, just wash as normal.

oh i'll try the baby oil thing although im pretty good at getting it off. I do really look after my tan and do all the recommended routines. thanks for your help Tinxy

Can I just jump in here and ask if more can be explained about hormones affecting the tan? When throughout the month should you try and avoid having a tan and when should you aim to have one?

Thanks!
