Is it possible to come into this industry if you cannot work weekends?

Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have always wanted to be a beauty therapist or make up artist but my parents steered me into a different direction (university). I now have two small children and am 33 and really want to follow my passion. Next year my youngest child starts school so I will have time to start a new career at the age of 33. I would love to enter the beauty industry in any capacity. However, my other half works every weekend night (and therefore sleeps in the day at weekends) and works 3 nights mid week and we have no family who could help us with childcare. Am I being unrealistic to train to enter this industry if I cannot work weekends or evenings? It feels like there is always something stopping me from pursuing my passion, first parental expectations and now my other halfs work commitments. Is there any way for me to enter this industry? Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thank you in advance

If you're willing to work for yourself and build your own business then it's an ideal industry to work in. You would be able to set your own hours to fit around the needs of your family. If you want to work in a salon then weekends are usually a requirement so may be less suitable for you.

Hi I'm mobile, I'm a single mum and I work between school hours so I don't have to pay for childcare. Sometimes I offer a couple evening appointments if my clients need but I don't advertise them.. I've been mobile for just over a year now and I'm normally booked up at least 3 days per week now and 5 days a week through busier periods. I'd say go for it. You don't know until you try. Just make sure you target your advertising to those who will be your potential clients.. Such as. Stay at home parents, retired people, people who do shift work/ night shifts.
Good luck !!

Hi
I retrained at 37 to be a nail tech and have built my own successful business, 13 years later I'm still going strong but I've never done weekends although I do some evenings when it suits me, this got easier as my kids got older.
I have to say, the over 60's are my target market really although I've got people from all ages, but the older ones never want evenings, always seem to have the money to keep having them done and are wonderfully reliable xx
