I have been accepted onto a Beauty Therapy Level 3 NVQ: Massage Route starting in September 2011. Swedish, Aromatherapy, Hot Stone and Indian Head Massage will be covered. I am really looking forward to it but I've heard that you can't give full body massages whilst pregnant and that Aromatherapy Oils should also be avoided whilst pregnant too. Does anyone have any advice or information regarding this please?

I am not currently pregnant but my husband and I were hoping to start trying in January 2012 but wondering if I'll be able to continue with the course if I fall pregnant.

I know this is not what you want to hear but there is no way they will allow you to do an aromatherapy course while pregnant as you will need to smell the oils and massage with them and it's a minefield for pregnant women.

Also although you are allowed to have a massage after 3 months of pregnancy, it is a specialised massage where you are positioned differently and certain movements are avoided. Unless you experience the massage you are training in as well as doing it it's hard to learn what feels nice.

Also although you maybe fine giving massage you need to make sure not to over tire yourself, talking from experience you may have morning sickness at the beginning and tiredness too so massage will be the last thing you want to use your energy doing. I gave massages until I was 4 months pregnant and I found it very hard going.

I would contact the course leaders as I assume they will tell you the same thing.

Good luck with your baby plans x
