Is there such things as a gel that does not need to be cured by a light?

A friend of mine went to have her nails done at a beauty school she said she got gel but that they didnt cure it under a light. I didnt know there was such a thing. What brand is this and does it work just as well as regular gels? I have never used gels so I dont know much about them but I plan to learn soon.

Interesting.
A Gel without a UV light cure???????
Not sure how that would work.

Thats what I said too. I dont know if she was just confused about what service she got or if this is a product I have not heard about.

resin comes in a gel form, did she give you a run down of the procedure ?

I really cannot think what this is .....apart from L&P!!...people don't really notice what you are using sometimes.....I had a client.....did her nails for 3 years went from L&P tips and overlay to eventually L&P overlay on her own nails.....my powder is always in its original creative pot on the table and I pour my monomer fresh for every client into my dappen dish......She tells me her sister is now getting enhancements but not like HERS her sister gets some sort of powder stuff not like the gel I use!!!!
People see what they want to see....she just saw my brush go into a pot and come out with a bead of "stuff" on it!!...........And I do actually talk about what I am doing...they just don't listen...:smack:

She didnt really give me a run down but she said that there was no liquid or powder involved she was sure that it was a gel but I think she is confused. I think Izzidoll is right when she said that people just dont pay attention to what being done to their nails. I cant think of any kind of gel product that would not need to be cured. I think my friend is just crazy :p

Hi ya .xox
This has got me thinking [ errrr ]

Along with the client record cards we keep.
Plus any and all MMA & NSS client handouts we provide.

Maybe a questionaire that asks about the different techniques a client
new to the salon may have experienced elsewhere?

ie: Lifting of the product away from the Natural Nail.

- Lifting of the Natural Nail away from the Nail Plate.

- Discomfort - Injury - Reaction during or after a service.

- Have you experienced Gel Systems [finished under UV light]
- Did you enjoy wearing Gel Enhancements
Yes No
- Have you experienced Liquid & Powder Systems [air dry finished]
and so on.

Of course these were just of the top of my head,[lol] you would naturally
list q's that apply to you & your client's........
Lots of q's from client's to follow that relate to them directly.
Easy way to get the information across for you/us also.
There's bound to be a few rib ticklers [crack ups] in amongst the answers you'll get from them...lol... Useful - Valuable info also .

We hear some really STRANGE interpretations from our clients at times [lol]
It can leave the best of Techs wondering what it was they meant.
Enjoy it all...
Your bound to hear and see some REAL EYE N EAR OPENERS
as you make your way through the industry.

this sound alot like what it could of been, a thick gel viscosity resin cured with an activator. some companies market this as a "no lite gel".

without the full procedure though it could of been anything!

I think Ant has got it right :)

Every system needs a catalyst to get it going. As he said, there used to be a 'no lite' gel and this was a cyanoacrylate. Nothing wrong with it though it can be a bit tricky to apply

yeah, i used to use a gel over silk. like, id apply my silk, couple of coats of resin, then the gel, then smooth it over with brush on activator. buff and shine. I think they sell this kind of gel in home kits aswell. :irked:
