Salon saying i take longer than anyone else. New clients. I use toner after highlights. Others dont. It DID take me 5 hours with consult, formulation, tinit retouch, and partial highlight - haircut and blowdry. They want to be able to book me, but my times are al over the place. Help me help myself?

Five hours does sound a bit extreme for root re-touch, highlights and cut. Toners only add about 15 minutes extra to a service as they’re normally applied at the basin, so I wouldn’t focus just on that.
Could you not do the highlights and roots at the same time?
How long does a cut normally take?
Next time, list every part of the service and note how it takes to complete, including how long for consultation, shampooing, foil application, cut etc. That might help identify particularly areas that need work.

Thank you, and yes, i was even surprised. I think my leson is - when i talk i use my hands, so- if im talking...WTS, I followed up with her this morning and she likes her hair and is going to come back. I asured her the hard part was over. I am also hyper-aware and am not going to let it hapen again. Also verh good suggestion... i dont want to be that hairdresser that they say- i realy like wnat she did, she just takes to long!

You may have figured out the main problem.
Regarding the talking, I try not to talk too much and I’m tend to play a variety of chill/relaxing music and stay silent, if required. Although I also love playing traditional Irish fiddle music which gets your feet tapping.
I mostly work from home and a lot of my clients are the ones that just want to chill rather than chat.
I think there’s nothing wrong with chit chat but maybe tell your client that you want them to close their eyes, listen to the music and relax. That way, you can focus on the task in hand for longer periods.

You need to be commercially viable....
I often see beautiful work on social media, that would of taken HOURS......
That's great for you own personal portfolio or competition work, done in your own time.....but for a business owner, time is money!
Todays client, will often decide if they use us or not, on the price point!
A business owner is always having to justify time taken for the service, the cost of products used....and labour costs....
Always remember, a business without profit is a hobby.

Right. I could make excuses, i would rather make money and produce beautiful results. As hard as it is to admit, totaly unacceptable and it cannot happen again. A definite wake up call for me! Also, FYI , the ticket was $335. :)

Folks the other side of the pond are IMO, able to charge more than we are here in England....
We have a saturated market here...
That service would probably be booked for 2 hours.....with an average bill of £100.00.

It's true, a completely different industry in the US.
