Hi, I recently had my hair lightened from my natural level 6 to a level 9. Even though the salon did a great job I feel it looks a little too warm and golden now. So I went to Sally's and asked for a toner to create a more ashy toned look. The girl there recommended wella koleston perfect in special blonde 12/1 with a 3% 10 vol developer. She also said to apply it but to keep an eye incase it grabs too much and turns khaki colour. What concerns me more is having now read that the 12 line in koleston shouldn't be used as a toner, only the 10 line? Is this true? If so I'm a bit annoyed that I was sold the 12.

Are you a hairdresser @Beth189 ? I would recommend going back to the stylist who coloured your hair and they will be able to help you out x

Forgot to ask that all important question didn't i haha xxx

I think it's fairly obvious that the op isn't a hair pro. And giving her advice is against the forum rules, but it also transforms this site into ask.com.

Yeah I know but I just thought I would ask to be on the safe side! So op go back to the hairdresser to see if they can rectify it and get it to the colour you want to be or maybe go to your local training college, they need colour corrections if they are on their level 3 and it is all watched over by teachers x

I do understand where your coming from t sparker but I was simply just trying to help so... She has been mis sold a product by salon services.

Hi thanks for all the responses, helps me out loads. (And no, I'm not a hairdresser.) I haven't used it yet so will go back to Sally's and exchange it if I can for a different one. In future I'll probably get it done at the salon anyway. With it being Christmas and all, I'm now a bit short of cash hence why I'm doing it myself.

Sally's staff are not usually qualified hairdressers so it's not sensible to rely on their advice plus they shouldn't really be selling professional colour products to untrained clients. If you burnt your scalp and sued them, you'd both come unstuck!

Exactly my cause of concern. I know this a forum for hairdressers but I just wanted a professional opinion, and not just put my trust into what a sales women said, especially if I don't know what training she's had.

Before you do anything yourself go back to the original salon and see if they will rectify it without you having to touch it and then like I said try a training college they charge a fraction of the price x
