Looking natural or looking fake?

I honestly do believe you can have all those things and still look natural. If you have a good beauty therapist then your tan, hair and nail enhancements will compliment you perfectly.

I really hate the Jodie Marsh look. I saw her with no make up and she looked so nice, I don't get it, maybe its me. I think I heard her say it makes her feel confident and if it does then good for her but I don't personally like the look.

I also saw the pictures of Jodie Marsh with a 'make under'. She looked lovely. Hardly recogniseable from her usual self. I suppose though when we see her she is dressed up for 'work' purposes. Would be interesting to see what she looks like when she's off duty.

I like the natural look, I used to wear foundation, eyeshadow etc everyday but I got so sick and tired of putting it on!
The most I do now is tint my eyebrows and dye my hair when needed, put on a bit of concealer, mascara and blusher every day and I'm done, takes about 5 mins. However when I go out I do put it all on, just so I feel more dressed up.
Thankfully I've got a nice natural skin colour so don't need to use fake tan.
As for my nails, some days I don't wear any others I do natural, but then I'll have days when I'm feeling creative and I'll have long coloured stiletto's.
I just try to enhance what I've already got

Id like to know how you get the time to do yourselves....lol

I dont have time to paint my nails let alone a full set & tan.....

I always look presentable but I really dont have enough time for myself....

I never leave the house without my slap on-lol.
I don't look over the top though although i like lots of mascara!
I've never had nail extensions and i don't like hair extensions.
I do have a 10% tan though. I'm naturally quite dark though so it does look natural.
I prefer the natural look.
I watch that snog, marry avoid show. Oh how people can walk aroung like that-shocking-lol

Too right!

I think too many people expect beauty therapist to look all the same i.e face caked in make up, all long perfect hair, long lashes, all bronzed up.

But i think that persona should change as i think that's a big reason why some people think beauty therapists are dumb, as some that Ive seen look dumb because of their outside appearance.

Of course their is nothing wrong with a tan as long as it looks natural to your own self, and some lovely set of nails. This is not what i would call fake.

Couldnt agree more! The entire industry is about beauty creativity an self expression (in my opinion) NOT a generic look........we need to be true to ourselves in life and demonstrate to clients thats ok salons dont "churn out" one look. I was recently at a salsa class with a friend and she introuced me to another beauty therapist (who in fairness had that generic look going on) she said to the girl "this is my friend Lee, she is a beauty therapist too but in Warwick" I swear to god....the girl looked me up and down about 5 times and said "omg are you really a beauty therapist I expected you to be a body piercer":irked: How rude!!

While I have short natural tips on my enhancements and more of a spray tanned glow (as I am so pale natrually) I have facial piercings (not hundreds just 2 lol) and loads of tattoos, obvious ones I dont hide them (besides one is beind my ear and I have short hair Lol) My hair is short and varies in a range of colours and I regulalry do a drammatic eye look using dark pigments......I deffinitely DONT look like a beauty therapist but I find it as helped me enormously to catch the client base I wanted to!!

Beauty is a million and one things and I believe its our job as a therapist to not only unerstand that but demonstrate that.

How rude! Hope it did show her though that you don't need to look like barbie to be a beauty therapist.

Of course if there are beauty therapists who want all the long nail art nails and the hair extensions and the very very dark tan and face full of make up that's fine but its not a persona for every beauty therapist.

Myself i don't want to look like a dumb beauty therapist i want to look good but look intelligent

Well, I don't think anyone would ever look at me and think "ooh a natural beauty" but I like my fakery to look as natural as poss if that makes sense.

I wear false lashes but make sure they're natural looking ones, makeup is the same no matter what, eyeliner, lippy and bronzer. I bleach my hair but it's not white and wear hair extensions but make sure they match and are blended in perfectly. I don't wear flase nails mainly because my own nails are nice and tend to wear neutral colours on them unless I'm vamping it up a bit with pink, orange or red. (thought last night was neon night so I had yellow nails with neon pink french manicure tips)

I also love a bit of tanny but more of a glow than a radioactive beam!

As a customer it's the execution, not the style, that I judge beauty and hair peeps on...I've thought about this a lot as I want to be a beauty therapist/nail tech but a permanent tan and long French enhancements are just "not me"!
The therapist that I go to is very much the "stereotype", very dark tan, very long enhancements, tooth gem, hair extensions, massive lashes, etc etc, but it's all very well done, tan isn't patchy, extensions aren't ratty, you get the idea. Her personal style doesn't appeal to me at all, but the fact that she is obviously skilful at applying tans, makeup, nails, and takes care with her appearance does appeal.
Her colleague is a lot more "natural" looking (well, she's more Girls Aloud to her Jordan!) which I think gives the salon a good mix.
As long as you look presentable I say let your personal style shine through!
I'd find it quite refreshing to see more individual looks represented in salons.
