In January a dream came true, I eventualy found a room 2 rent 2 carry out beauty treatments. I am qualified in many beauty treatments, and carried out all good marketing, and research techniques regarding local competitiveness. The first 2 months Jan-feb rent I paid & March has managed 2 pay itself- no profit though (which I had expected for the 6 months, however stil disheartened by it).
I am qualified in my treatments, professional in offering my services & looking after looking after every 1 who walks through my door, and of course insured. WELL 2dy it has been brought 2 light that a neighbour is offering & carrying out Eyebrow thread for £1.50! I am so angry at this, as **** face me who works a fulltime job, plus my beauty on days of, does over a 100 hours a wk, pays tax etc for 2 jobs, abides by the lands rules & is earning nothing since opening, and the next door neighbour is travelling up & down the road doing eyebrows for £1.50! Whilst claiming of the good law abiders..

Imn thinking of hanging my uniform up after another 2 months, as imn losing the will 2 continue, after trying all I could possibly think of 2 attract customers.

I have lived 2 learn there is no justice! & am starting 2 think if I Cnt beat them join them........

Rant over, however I feel so annoyed....

Don't let it get you down, there will always be people out there that will undercut prices. She can't be making much money if she's doing treatments for £1.50!!

Stay strong! x

This is awful hun but don't let some nobody that's got no clue at beauty make you Decide to give up your dream, that's a silly thing to do.

Please don't take this the wrong the way as its not how it's intended but you have only been there 3 month that's not enough time to make a profit you won't see a profit till atleast halfway of your 2nd year maybe even 3rd of course it all depends on if your very busy or not.
Everyone has them days where ya just think why do I bother. I'm in the middle of 2established salons and in August I will have been opened 2year n I still have days where I think I can't compete with them but then I think I've been here nearly 2 year n in doing ok so I can and I will.

At the end of the day people will go where they wanna go all you can hope is that she messes up and word gets round that she not qualified n her prices speak volumes for what she does. Keep doing what your doing hun be professional, offer everything you can, do offers, perhaps find a way of letting neighbours know she isn't qualified n that it's illegal what she is doing and they are been apart of it.

It's hard doing a job with this aswell I did it all the way through college with 2 jobs n was still doing it last year aswell as the shop but I've packed it in now as I don't need it x

Please don't give up and let her win she really isn't worth all the training and hard work you have done babe x x x

Did I read right she is claiming benifits whilst working!!!

I've been in my salon for almost a year and a half now and this year I've had many days where I've felt like locking the door permanently due to all manner of reasons.
3 months really is not a long time, you have to ride through it.
In the time I've had my salon I've had 2 other places open up on my high street (plus more in the local area), one lasted 6 months and at the moment the other is still going, she may only be there for 5mins. Plus if she is just doing threading and you are doing more treatments you have nothing to worry about. The fact you broke even in your 3rd month of business is fantastic, keep at it and you'll be fine!

£1.50 is an unsustainable rate and it's most likely they won't last long. Don't be entirely price driven - people decide on what they want based on more than price. If it was price alone, most people would do DIY jobs.

Keep at it - they won't last long. Just reinforce your message to your customers of the value that you bring to them.

Call the benefits office hun, but if all she is doing is covering petrol I don't know if they will do it, also, she is able to earn up to what she recieved in benefits with £1 for £1 taken off as age earns and her working time is under 16 xoxo

£1.50?! I've heard it all now! i have a lot of clients say they saw a salon advertising cheap treatments and their reaction is it mustn't be very good. So being cheap has an adverse affect. So have faith in what you do hold your head up high that you are doing business properly. Don't waste your energy on others put it towards plugging yourself and persevere.

I've been working for myself for 7 years now and can say it doesn't get much easier. You have to be constant, I have good months and bad months but by being consistent I have continued whereas others around me have come and go.

Hope that helps x

God bless u all for ur kind words & precious time 2 offer me the support in words. It really has given me strenghth to
continue, and live the dream. The reason I become so deflated is that good law abiding people work so hard! N then u have my neighbour who has no values, morals, or idea of a decent living. I am going 2 continue to work hard, and professionaly. It just makes me frustrated that some customers want 2 only go cheap & are not fussed about the health & safety issues n the customer care they recieve.

Kind regards

Nikki

Are you surprised? I know so many people doing this... It is almost the norm!!! x

Don't give up, believe me being on benefits is not fun, I'm sure she will get bored soon plus I know I wouldn't go to someone that cheap I would rather go to someone who is fully trained and I'm sure I'm not the only person who thinks this way. X

hmmm let me be honest would i go to some one who is charging £1.50 (why cheap i would wonder) or pay extra to go into a nice room with someone who i bet u can tell cares very deeply about her work. i know where i would go, so do not worry others will think the same

Unless you know for absolute certain that this person is claiming benefits and earning you would do well to stay silent on the matter.
The benefits office will not take kindly to vexatious claims.

I really p**ses me off when people do this I would report her! My partner came out of work a few years ago and had paid his tax and national insurance etc for years before and because I was earning just over £200 a week he wasn't entitled to anything yet sponging low life's that have never done a days proper paid work get everything handed to them on a plate.
More people should report them!

Agree with lynne baker.

I really think you should forget about anybody else and just focus on your own business. If you don't succeed it won't be because of this other woman.

Hanging up your uniform in two months?! You need to give a new business more time to become established and show a return than you are discussing.

Don't be disheartened! All great success stories have their rough spot. I'm sure if you are breaking even already then you are well on your way! I would just focus on rebooking, establishing those regulars! Good luck !
