Bev could you be trying to start the shape a little too soon.........perhaps let the straight sidewalls carry forward for a little longer and the start the oval shape IYKWIM. Don't forget lots of the beautiful nails you were seeing at The Event were custom blends so the sidewalls will have carried forward to the very end of the finger pads.

First of all. Stop stressing.

An true almond shaped nail does not have a lower arch ... neither should it be filed right into the corners too much.

There is such a thing as a happy medium. Get your almond shape and then soften all corners. Doing this will take away the 'obviousness' of the lower arch, as it should do, or it wouldn't be almond now would it?

Thank you Geeg so much for you saying that!!!

Would you just have a quick look at the pics - could they be a 'happy medium'?
It drove me bonkers last night, as you could see lol! I nearly soaked them off at midnight!
But I've left them on to torture myself! But, now they don't seem so bad.
I'm so pleased True Almond doesn't have a lower arch

Hope - thanks for that - I must also remember that all those gorgeous nails were on the fingers of Grand Masters too!

Beverly rose calm down !LOL

remember the angle of your form or tip fit will also help with your lower arch x

also I use curved scissors to take away the corners of the tip and tide up with my file I find for me this is the best way to get the front form even from nail to nail, but remember your not shaping from where the ears of the tip are you are, coming straight out from the side walls and start to shape the curve at the pad of the finger, then soften the edges slightly to achieve the smooth almond shape xx hope that makes sense x

Bev!! this post has made me realise how much more training I need. You are an amazing tech and the thought that you might be unhappy with your work makes me think "omg, i need more training" (a good thing). I am sure I am not the only one who wishes I could create nails like you xxx I know this doesnt help you really but just wanted to say I know you will crack it! xxx

Thank you very much Stevie - it's really kind of you to say that:hug:

I have to say, I'm always trying to improve the 'last set'. I'm my own worst critic, my clients love what I do for them - thank god! But I'm the one with the professional eye:lol: ykwim!

Claire!!! I've stopped stressing now! Just!

I understand exactly what you are saying & I'm even going to print it off and take it to my nail desk and read it whilst tyring to shape:hug:

Bev,
Have you had ago of the "paint the nail red, then file" technique yet ?
I had a nail on the other day...I looked good, but I could see there was something wrong...I just couldnt work out what.
I look the red, painted the enhancement and then followed the file technique on page 9-5 in the workbook....
Its worth a try....

I have learned already from doing this something I was doing wrong with my sidewalls and lower arch,
I was taking out the lower arch trying to bring the nail in slimmer, when I found out in actual fact, It was the sides were too wide...
Like y'know when you look down the barrell....My product didnt curve nicely...It was too thick either side.....
Not by much, but enough to make me go :irked:

Following this technique, has showed me now how to file right, without taking too much off ...

This is probably one of them things, that works for some, and not for others, for me it did...

I haven't mentioned the shaping of the free edge here as there is lots of comments on that already xx

Hi Ems:hug:

It's funny, because I used to use a similar trick when I first started doing nails - I used to think I'd finished, paint my nail with top coat & then buff it to see where the highs & lows were.
I have been using the file song routine and it has helped me quite a lot. If nothing else, you get into a routine of finishing each nail in the exact way, which in turn produces uniformity.
I don't normally have problems with my lower arches in other nail shapes - soft square & square, it was just this almond that I found elusive!
I'm going to re-read my book though - thanks for reminding me.

I now have an urge to turn my soft squares in to almonds. :green: Must try and resist, as they look quite nice and I don't want to make a complete pig's ear of them!

Very helpful thread.

It is like a "going back to basics" isn't it....
I was hoping you wouldn't think I was cheeky suggesting it,
as It may have sounded like I thought you couldn't file iykwim lol..

I was gobsmacked when I tried it I think we get too comfy sometimes...lol

Im glad you knew it how I ment it
