Hi all,

Im not not sure if this is the right place to ask but I thought I'd give it a go.

I'm currently a full time mum age 29 but 3 years ago I qualified in nail enhancements and art. I noticed I was actually pretty good at nail art and it was something I really enjoy practising. I've always been someone who loves makeup and my friends and family are sure to call me to do their makeup on a night out proms weddings etc.. I've realised I love love love makeup and being as creative as possible (it's only taken 12 years ) I want to do a makeup artistry course part time but I'm not sure where to go... theatrical or bridal etc.. and am i too old to be starting a career as a makeup artist? Where can I go and do as a nail and makeup artist? Any advice is hugely welcome. I have so many questions....

Thanks in advance
Jai

Illamasqua offer make up courses full & part time - I want to do a few of their day courses as top ups. But no your never too "old" (your not old by the way!). Or you could check your local college for courses that are p/t - in make up artistry you can go far if you have a natural talent & passion for it. Part of a course is building a portfolio of work up. Good luck x

Thanks so much for your reply I've been looking into it and ut looks as though ill need to go to London. I'll have a look at illamasqua thank you xx

Hi again

I'm. Sorry I'm flooding the thread I just have heaps of questions. I'm thinking of going to London school of makeup and I was wondering if I have a decent portfolio etc where do you go to get work? I'm looking to do it mobile but I'm also interested in editorial and film. Is this something that takes time or is will it be based on talent. Probably a stupid question it's just an expensive course and wabt to make sure I'm investing my money well.

Thanks in advance xx

I have recently gained my IMA qualification with 'The central school of make up' in Birmingham same qualification as the London school of make up, laura is an amazing teacher, the course is intense but amazing! learnt so much I would defo recommend it! I'm also a nail artist freelance the both work together brilliantly, time and practice is the key same with everything talent and practice will get you to pass :)

In terms of qualifications, you could do a full level three diploma in makeup artistry/theatrical makeup and this will typically cover bridal, fashion and theatre and pretty much everything. If it's just bridal and not theatre you want to get qualified in it is possible to just do the award in fashion and photography makeup. These qualifications are typically awarded by vtct or city and guilds.

I too am looking for a suitable makeup course at the moment. I've done level two city and guilds but am unsure as to what route to take to build on this.

Congratulations on getting bridal work. That's not always easy.

Sorry hijacking this !!laurakate can you give me advice please.....been hair stylist for 13 year and am wanting to do a mua course to word towards doing professional wedding Mu ext do you know of any courses

I'm still riding the wave of this dilemma myself.

The full level three course includes media makeup and bald caps etc so although it sounds fun, it's possible to take just a unit qualification in level three fashion amd photographic makeup if it's just bridal and prom you want to do.

I'm still weighing up whether to go big or to keep it subtle and relevant. Media makeup would be fun to learn but I don't want to work in the field so I'm thinking maybe just fashion and photography unit rather that full level three diploma.

Where are you at with it? :)

Regarding hair up and hair extensions I'm not sure what to advise.
