Hi all,

I've just qualified and will be offering treatments such as facials and massage on a mobile basis, until I can get some space sorted in order to eventually offer this at home.
Might sound stupid but I just wanted to know how i start this up? This is all so new to me and it seems really daunting, I just don't know where to start lol.
I've got insurance and am hoping to start properly in the new year. At first it will be on a part time basis as I need to fit this around my other job. However my goal is to eventually be able to do this full time from home.
Where could i advertise my services? I was thinking local Facebook groups or make my own business page on Facebook and Instagram. Maybe make some business cards/flyers and put up in shops? Post through doors? I was looking at maybe advertising on Booksy and Fresha but I think you have to pay?
I haven't made a price list yet but am in the process of comparing prices in my local area, but I'm just not sure if i should be charging less/more for being mobile.
Do you take your own music with you, if so what kind of device could I use?
If there are any mobile therapists who could give me some advice/tips it would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Hi,
I recently set up my own mobile business. I would really really strongly advise you to do some work in a salon before working on your own mobile. I worked for 8 years in a salon (not suggesting you should do it for this long!) and the experience and confidence it gave me was invaluable! There are so many things that I applied to setting up mobile that I would never have thought of if I had set up straight from training.

When you do start mobile work I personally found pricelists through letterboxes the most effective way to drum up business. Realistically the people who will want to use a mobile therapist will be older people, disabled people, mums with young children etc so taking your business info literally to their door is a great way to get their attention.

Pricing wise is very tricky, you don't want to deter people by being more expensive than other places, however you do need to cover costs plus the extra time you lose setting up/down and travelling. I researched prices in my local area and priced myself roughly in the middle to higher end and have had no complaints so far about my prices. I think people realise they need to pay for the convenience of not having to leave the house (especially when they see you making multiple trips to your car carrying equipment!)

As for music, I only really use it for massage treatments and have found a downloaded "spa music" album played on my phone works fine (just make sure to silence notifications!)

Hope this helps and best of luck,

X
