my 7 month old son have been constantly sick for 3 months now, some days he is worse than others but to let you know how bad it is, he is having to get his clothes changed 3 or 4 times a day sometimes more.....he is going through at least 10 to 15 bibs a day and most days his cot bedding needs changed once or twice and some days even more :irked:

he is on gaviscon powders but they dont stop him being sick they only make it thicker when it comes up.....the thing is although its very messy for both him and especially me (my washing machine is on 4 or 5 times a day) he is just so happy, its certainly not making him distressed in any way......my doctor and health visitor have said he might grow out of it by the time he is about 9 months old as it could just be a weak muscle in his stomach that wont allow the food to stay down

its driving me absoloutly nuts....has anyone else been through this with their children and if so was there anything else that helped?

i have the smell of baby puke up my nostrils all the time and i'm getting paranoid that my house is honkin although everyone else has said that its just me....the worst thing is when he has those little fromaige frais as they just turn sour the minute they hit his stomach and they really do stink when they come back up

help me someone before i lose my marbles

My mates baby had this, Its severe reflux something or other. He grew out of it but he was nearly a year old. dairy did make it worse but everything triggered it. ask your doctor again because Im sure kirsty, my mate, got more help than you seem to be getting. If i remember correctly they had him eating 10-12 tiny meals all day instead of 3 main ones. And by tiny I mean just a few spoonfuls at a time.

well my cousins baby is now four months and her baby was exactly the same. she changed the babies milk powder and now hes fine

My neighbours baby had this and it turned out that he had a blockage in his pipes. He had to have a small operation and now he is fine.
Children can also have a dairy intolerance, this can develop at any age, maybe you should try him on Soya milk. You can get it on prescription from the doctors. Or from Boots.

My friends baby had this from birth, she was also on gaviscon but changed the milk from sma gold to sma white and it stopped, and also when she started weaning she had to give her tiny amounts. your lucky cos in some babies it can cause them to be really uncomfortable. If it ever gets like this PM me cos I have some great tips on how to get them to sleep when it hurts them. good luck x x x

Hi, My daughter is 10 months old and we went through exactly the same thing. The health visitor said it is a valve in their throats that doesnt quite close, so up it comes. Meg was puke, puke and off she went to play.
They do grow out of it, my health visiotr said by about 8 months. She did also advise that the doctor can prescribe medication if it carries on or gets worse. As long as there not losing weight there fine. We took to double bibing Meg and leaving (clean) bibs on her all day.
It is a pain because sometimes they get you, or themselves or the carpet and you worry about taking them out, but dont.
Its just one of those things and you're not alone.
I doubt your house smells of baby puke, I'm always worried mine smells of the other end!!
It will stop soon I promise.:D

My son also went through this constantly being sick and at the time I thought it would never end. I don't have a photograph of him under 10 months without a dirty bib on !!!

It changed dramatically at 6 months when we put him on baby gaviscon, the sickness still carried on but at least he started smilling, the constant sicky must have been giving him horrible heart burn and he was constantly wittering, never smilling.

I think he changed at around 10 months, suddenly I was finding I was cutting the bibs down to about 6 a day instead of 20+!

I feel for you hun, but if your baby is anything like mine... IT WILL END!! and you can then enjoy your baby fully.

My boy is almost 2 now, and is going through the next difficult stage... won't eat anything unless its sweet!!! oh humm... the joys huh!

My middle daughter did this and I thought it would never end but it did she is 13 now.

She was sick until she was about 14 months old the doctor said it was a weak reflux thingy.

I used to take her to nursery with 2 or three sets of spare clothes and she always came home in nursery clothes.

Its worth mentioning to the health visitor or doctor. Just remember it will get better:Kissing: .

I had this problem with my youngest child he was sick night and day. Ended up seeing a specialist and it turned out that he was lactose intolerant. Cut out all dairy and he was put onto wysoy baby formula and the sickness stop within a week.

My Amy was sick non stop for a very long time. On a practical note, once I'd bathed her, I'd put a plastic backed towelling bib on her with the towelling against her skin. Then I'd dress her and put another bib over the top of her clothes, the right way around. This way, the bib underneath stopped her little chest getting wet. Give it a try.

thanks for the replies everyone.......i've wondered about the dairy intolerance for a while now...he has had his milk changed 3 times and has now been on aptimil extra for about 4 months.

i too am fed up looking at him with dirty bibs on....he has so many beautiful clothes but no one can see them because he is always covered up with a bib....he has a wardrobe full of brand new stuff that i am loathe to put on him as all his stuff is getting ruined

the health visitor is coming back on tuesday as she is keeping an eye on hime because he has only put on 4 ounces in 5 weeks which isnt very much....i will talk to her about a few of the things that you have all mentioned

Dont know if it will work, but the old fashioned remedey for reflux vomiting is to raise the 'head end' of the cot by about 3 inches. We put a couple of books under the legs. This is supposed to help keep the food down in the stomach better, rather than it flowing back up the throat. My health visitor said it would get better as he got older and the reflux valve develops better.

Only think about raising the cot or pram is that you have to put baby down at the bottom end or else he slides down the bed.

This is an excellent tip Kimmi... my son had a red patch the size of a grapefruit on his chest where the acidy sicky burnt his delecate skin :( Wish I had thought of this one.

I used Dr Brown bottles with feeding too... have you tried these, it might be a bit late to change his bottle now as your baby might be totally off milk feeds?

Lifting the cot matress up 3 inches also helped my baby at night ... I put 3 paperback books under each foot of his cot at the head end like Val suggested.

My daughter Amy is now 18 and we had the same problem with her. She's grown into a healthy young girl with no health problems. We tried several types of milk and nothing worked. Like everybody else said she just grew out of it. I dont know if its got anything to do with it but now she doesnt alf burp a lot LOL

hi there my littlest one oliver suffered with reflux what a nightmare took us a year to figure out what it was, we raised the head of the cot this helped a little we tried gaviscon this helped for a while then we got prescription drugs and this was brilliant, as they get more upright they grow out of it as the valve in the osphegous grows stronger, as oliver was taught to sit up and then walk then run he got over it but have to say he was dairy allergic and we changed him to wysol which he has to stay on until he is 8 and this was a great help.

Dont envy you in the slightest its horrid the constant feeding and the constant throwing up and washing the very best of luck hun.

Have you tried to change the milk to Soya milk?

Hi ya

My neice had this quite severe that made her lose massive amounts of weight, she was only like a little tiny doll as it was but she still kept losing weight because of the reflux.
anyway after seeing a consultant at the hospital and a lot of toing and froing they eventually but her on a milk that thickened as soon as it hit her stomach to stop it coming back up
she was also given liqud iron and vitamins daily so that she wasnt losing any vitamins
it is worrying when our children are poorly, I know i have three lads and they are my pride and joy.
I hope your boy feels better shortly if you ever feel the need to chat to anyone im always around if you need a shoulder
sending love and hugs

my son suffered like that worse if i took him in car or took out after feed my gp said it was reflux i bought special bottles as when the bottle touched stomach with milk in he would bring it up as long as he is putting weight on my son grew out of it when he had more solid meals and less milk

I know someone who's baby son has only just grown out of this at about 6mths of age. Your GP and Healthvisitor are no doubt correct. His muscle tone and sphincters are immature and he's likely to catch up with himself. I know it's hard, but as long as he is happy and fit and well then that is most important. Chin up.
