Hi!

Can anyone please give me some urgent advice.

I started doing Semi-Permanent Individual Eyelash Extensions 5 months ago. I do them mobile at my clients homes. I always use the same products (from LashFX) and have never had any problems - all my clients have been extremely happy with the results and 90% keep coming back regularly.

I had a new client on Monday who had had lash extensions before and had experienced no problems. When I had finished the set her eyes were a little red and were watering. I find that a lot of clients eyes water having had their eyes closed for such a long time and from the glue. I have had this reaction myself and the watering and redness seems to go fairly quickly. However, 2 days later and my clients LEFT EYE ONLY is still red and puffy and she has said its sore.

I told her that maybe one of the lashes is touching the skin and that I would come round straight away and remove it. She has assured me that none of her extensions are touching the skin. She has got some eye drops from the pharmacy and has said that these seem to be working and reducing the swelling. She doesn't want the eyelashes removed and I'm stumped as to what else to suggest or what the problem could be. My eyelash glue is almost at the date where it needs to be replaced but surely if the glue was the problem then both eyes would have been affected?

Please help, this has really knocked my confidence and I am concerned for my client.

Hello :)

First things first it might not be your fault. The client could have had onset of conjunctivitis or something similar prior to extensions. Can you remember what her eyes looked like before you started? Were there any signs of redness, aggravation or did they look slightly glazed? Did you sanitise everything for the left eye the same as you did for the right? Hope everything turns out ok for you, don't let it get you down! I know how you feel though it's natural to feel responsible but don't worry :) Just make sure you get in touch every day to ask her how she's getting on, if there's new improvement then start to worry!

Did you carry out a patch test?

Thanks for replying. I didn't carry out a patch test as the client didn't want one due to having lashes done before. In future i'll have to say they're compulsory. If she'd had a reaction to the glue wouldn't it have affected both eyes?

Everything was thoroughly sanitised and I did the exact same thing to both eyes.

The good thing is that her eye drops are working... I just wish she hadn't of had to go through the irritation in the first place.

Hey hun,

Clients will always try and get out of having them. You may use a different type of glue to someone else. It's so important to patch test everyone. You will not be covered under your insurance if you don't.
But hey, it's done now! All you can do is learn from it for the future.
It is possible for one eye to have a reaction esp if you have touched only that lid with the glue. If someone did have a reaction I'd be reluctant to start removing lashes with another product just incase it made it worse.
Hopefully your client is ok and you can put it behind you. Don't let it knock your confidence though. Like I said, lesson learned x
