(Sorry if I've asked this in the wrong place as it's about my own skin)
Hi skin geeks
I'm mainly nails and waxing. I'm just looking for some advice, my skin gets these tiny sore white spots every summer and they look awful and are painful.
I have a pretty good skin routine: I use dermalogica, dermal clay cleanser or ultra calming cleaner
Daily microfoliant
Over night clearing gel
Active moist
Could I be doing or using something else? I also use solar defence booster which is SPF 50 and it's just still happens every summer. It's really gets me down as it looks awful to my customers x ImageUploadedBySalonGeek1400513071.381225.jpg

Are you using a mask or booster? I find that ultracalming mask and soothing booster tend to take down sore pimples quite well. Also whats your skin like? Oily, dry, tight, oily toward the end of the day? Open pores? And do you wax the areas that are red with pimples?
X

They look really sore! Does anything come out when you squeeze or are they hard? Is your skin sensitive? I work with Dermalogica but never got on well with it personally. I've always found it quite harsh on my skin.

Thanks for the replies.... My skin is normal/dehydrated with oily t-zone. The little white pimples make my skin feel extremely tight and they feel too deep to squeeze although their heads feel almost prickly to touch. I don't wax my lip area as I have the same reaction when I do.
I am currently using hydrating booster a bout once a week to help with the dehydration.
I am going on holiday in July and I dread it every summer, can anyone recommend a matte SPF that might help my skin on holiday?
Sad face :-(

Charlene, your skin looks very sore. It might be an idea to ask your gp for a referral to a dermatologist.

Almost looks like prickly heat and looks very itchy and painful. I'm not sure if you already tried it but I would possibly try some anti histamine to see if that helps. Skin care is not my area so I'm sure if that may help but others will be able to give you more appropriate advice.
Hope you get it sorted. Good luck

Maybe drop the dermal clay and use the ultracalming. Try the ultracalming relief masque, use the dermal clay if you have it as a masque on the oily area, daily m seems fine, and try soothing booster. There is a supersensitive spf but its only a 30 I think. Go get a facial ask them for some samples and have a play around

Or you could always try some of the clean start range

Is there anything you do that triggers this? I know you say it's worst in summer, but is there anything you apply, or do that makes it worst? Sunbeds maybe? With you saying heat makes it worst. As jackdunn suggested a antihistamine may help if it's itchy and irritated, but I think this is more a case for a dermatologist to diagnose. In the meantime, I would steer clear of anything harsh on the skin that could irritate it even more. Definitely the overnight clearly gel, dermal clay cleanser and a exfoliant if you use one. Maybe someone who is more experienced in this field like squidgerballnet or skin geek could have better suggestions, it's nothing I've ever seen before xx

I saw something similar on a client and from what I gathered it was a combination of hair removal and going to the gym straight after sweating into her brow area. Hers was itchy and the ultracalming products helped ease it. Do you do anything to that area? is it just daily m scrub you use on that area? A consultation will be easier as you can go through everything

This only ever happens to my face when I sit in the sun (I've been out in the garden this weekend). I use mineral make up and thought I had a pretty good skin care routine so I definitely feel this is the sunlight some how causing this. I have cleansed my skin tonight with ultra calming and applied the ultra calming mist under my moisturiser. I'll definitely try a masque to calm it too, next time I visit Dermalogica.
And I think I will ask for a referral as it's really effecting me and I shouldn't dread the summer just because of my skin! Thanks again everyone

I don't do any hair removal on my face apart from my brows, but my face would of been sweating in the sun on Saturday. I don't exercise or go to the gym or anything and I'm not on any medication. The skin on my body is not sensitive and I don't get this reaction anywhere else. I feel it happens just on my upper lip and chin never on my forehead or cheeks x

It does actually look a lot like prickly heat, as previously mentioned. Have you tried taking a antihistamine?

I have never tried one but I will give it a go.

A couple of questions -
What mineral make up do you use?
Do you use the spf you mentioned every day or only in the summer?
Does it happen any where else on your face or just your chin?
Does this only happen in the sun/in the summer?
Have you been using Dermalogica for a long time?

Have you been back to a Dermalogica salon for some advice?

I don't know or use their products, but what condition would you say your skin is in generally? Do you have much redness/tightness across your face?

That'll do for starters lol

Hi squidge
I use Lilly lo lo mineral make up
I just use the SPF in the summer
The white painful spot breakouts happen just on my upper lip and chin (I do get spots round my jawline but they are hormonal)
These white painful breakouts only happens in the sunlight (I've used sunbeds in the past but not for about 3-4 years and never had this from sunbeds only sunlight, ie when it's hot here and always on holiday
I've been using Dermalogica for 12 months but previous to this I used cleansing wipes and no moisturiser. (I've had these breakouts though fir as long as I can remember in the summer)

I'd hazard a guess that you're having a reaction to the high level spf you're using. I would personally return to a dermalogica salon and ask. If I had sold you these products I would want to know if they didn't suit you.

It is really common to react to the products used in sunscreen, andit isfrequently the cause of prickly heat. You need a really good quality spf of around 15. This gives you excellent protection. Don't be fooled into thinking a high spf is better. It can lull you into a false sense of security but the bulk of protection is in a15. After that you're taking about 5 minutes here or there. You can end up loading your skin with free radicals in high spf sunscreen to protect it from another free radical - the sun.
I don't think lily lolo has bismuth in it so you're safe from that culprit. Perhaps try using your make up as your spf and see if there is an improvement.
I retail environ who make rad which is an excellent spf but you may be better with Jane Iredales Powder Me spf. It is like a colourless loose powder and has never caused a reaction in even my most sensitive clients.

These are only suggestions and obviously you may want to consult a dermatologist although one of my clients was being charged £500 to remove a milia by his dermatologist.

I agree with S'netball about spf. Can I just ask you charlene, did you get the breakouts before you started using spf?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer Vic. I will definately go back and tell/show them how my skin is reacting.

And I only started to use the solar defence SPF 50
Since using dermalogica, before this I would just use my regular sun cream usually a low factor bit ways had the same reaction in these areas of my face.

From reading this thread it's just given me the confidence to know that it can be remedied rather than me just worrying about it so I will see my gp, dermalogica skin care stand and see where I go from here x

Are they water resistant? I get a reaction on my arms with certain waterproof ones could be an ingredient that that area of your skin doesn't like.
