I work in a salon part time and the other part of the week i do mobile hairdressing. Have you had a look at what sort of prices other mobile's are offering in your area? I charge round about the same as you for cut and blow etc but foils and tints i think you are quite cheap, i would charge those prices without the cut and blow, and add an extra £10 - £15 if they want the cut and blow. Everybody in my area always tells me i'm too cheap haha x

Hi Rachy, I really can't comment on whether these are the right prices for your area but they do seem quite cheap. I charge almost double than what you do on your cutting and styling and my colours are the same price as yours without a cut or blowdry. Most of my clients say I am too cheap, one lady even said she gets embarassed paying me so little. I would definitely do a lot of research into what other people charge in your area. Remember that mobile hairdressing isn't how it used to be regarded, it used to be looked at as a cheaper option than a salon but now people use a mobile hairdresser for convenience and will pay more for the convenience of the service. Don't under value your ability, people value a good service and they will pay.

I totally agree with stephanie, my prices sound quite similar to hers, but you need to research into your competitors prices around your area, I think that us southerners tend to be a bit more expensive anyway for some reason. Your prices need to reflect your experience and ability to do the job hun, people are prepared to pay the money for a good hairstylist. you also need to take into account your expenses such as fuel, products, etc, then set yourself an hourly rate and a bit extra on top so that you actually make a profit...or its just pointless really.
The other thing I do is only do childrens haircuts when booked in alongside a ladies service, or you will end up with mums wanting you to just go and cut their toddlers hair, which £3 is possibly not even going to cover your fuel costs, and as we all know...kids cuts can be time consuming so wont be worth your time if that's all your there for.
Good luck xx

I also think your prices are too cheap. But have a think on others advice. I would say, specify a minimum charge. I would have your blow drys at £12-£16 and make that your minimum charge. Also make your kids cuts from £5 - it's gonna take minimum 15 mins to get in set up cut the hair tidy up and leave - you need to value your time. X

I charge £5 for kids up to 5, £9 for up to 13 and full ladies price 14 and upwards as girls this age tend to want more style. Gents cuts are £9 so that price won't affect people as much, if that makes sense? :) x

thanks alot for all of your replies . much appreciated.

The majority of hairdressers mobile charge between £15 and £25 for cut and blow dries.
Colours are roughly th same as mine, i dont want to go too much but i do...
i think i will add 10 on each if cut is required
I have quite a good clientelle with the prices i charge at the moment but i think i may but them up for new clients maybe , and on my site and facebook..what are your opinions on this?

I am also struggiling on what to charge people for bleach baths also xxx

I wouldn't personally just charge new clients more, unfortunately there can't be friendliness in that respect in business, u would have to end up charging your existing clients extra at some point. I put my my prices up a fair amount in April and was worried that I would lose clients because of it, but I didn't. A few questioned the increase and I just explained that due to the increase in vat, fuel prices and general cost of living I had to review my pricing and adjust accordingly. It may sound horrible but if people want you to do their hair, they will pay your price. If some clients get funny and decide to look elsewhere for something cheaper then you have to cut your losses and let them go and stand your ground.
I was always too worried about what people would say about my prices until someone gave me the same advise, it's your business...you can charge what you like.
As for bleach bathing, that would be part of a colour correction service so I would have that as a 'price requiring consultation' basis (if that's the right way of putting it) sometimes you can quote a price and once you get there end up having to use more products and time and then you can end up out of pocket xx

yep i suppose you are right i will need to have a serious think about this.

Do you have a website or that i can see your prices ect xxx

Sent you pm xx

I agree with Pika, i wouldn't put prices up just for new clients. There is always someone who knows someone else and will end up talking and feel a bit miffed if they found out you were charging different prices. Why don't you set up a client loyalty scheme for your regulars where say after 5 or even 10 cut and blowdrys you get one free? You will always get people that moan about price increases but if they are happy with you then they will stay :)
