Right guys ... Please don't all jump on me at once lol but I've got nails for probably the first time ever in my life ( bitten them always!) and simply cannot afford to keep going to the nail salon to get them done.
I am a hairdresser and can purchase gelish or opi from the wholesalers as well as other brands - I have absolutely no intention of doing anybody else's nails whatsoever ... I'm busy enough! I just wondered if I was to buy say gelish , which I had a manicure done with 2 weeks ago and quite like , do I really need to have a lamp to put my hand in or can I just let it dry naturally inbetween coats.... Is the light to speed thing up a bit? I've tried having a read up on here but really don't have a clue but as said its just to use on myself as cannot afford a regular salon visit.

Any advice will be gratefully received! ;0)

if you are meaning gel polish then yes you need a lamp as they are UV cured. Start with the sticky thread to get an overview. It is quite expensive to start up as you need the proper nail prep products along with base and top coats and also colour coat and lamp. You also need to be skilled in manicure to apply it correctly. Different products have slightly different applications and so training in the product you intend to use is recommended. These are professional products for a reason and need to be handled carefully as prolonged contact of uncured products with the skin can cause allergies.

In all honesty it would take a fair bit of time and money to get set up, especially as your level of knowledge in nails seems quite low (no offense just going by the questions you have asked) so it would be a steep learning curve. Not sure if it is worth it if you are just doing it for yourself....

As you say you are a hairdresser why not see if there is someone who you could swop services (ie offer a hair cut) to get your nails done?

Hi thanks for the quick reply - and yes as I already had said I have absolutely no idea about nails! Should know better really as its a bit like people asking to colour their hair at home with a box colour lol!

Think I'll stick to getting it done in a salon but very light colour so regrowth isn't so noticeable! Or like you suggest offer haircut or something.

Should listen to my instincts!

Thanks again
