How would you describe to a client what is the best length of a nail extension . I get so many people just wanting them so long and they just don't last as well. I once was told a nail extension tip should be half the length of your nail bed ... what's your views on nail extension lengths ??

Exactly that, its the perfect balance to minimise breakages especially for those who are new to length. You can always elongate the nail bed with a coverage pink for a sleeker look but the extension free edge shouldn't really be longer than 50% of the natural nail bed.

Those who have worn them for longer will get used to the extra length and you can move the apex back to compensate as they become more accustomed to them but for newbies you're in charge, you're the trained professional who knows her job.

If they insist on too much length then make a note of your recommendations and waen them that repairs and breakages must be paid for

It just drives me crazy as I find it's the same clients constantly losing them and when I suggest shorter they don't seem to take my advice. I charge for replacement but I'm just finding it hard to fit the replacements in as I have a busy regular clientele who book for months in advance I can't seem to find the slots to fit the replacements in and is so frustrating when they wouldn't need replacements if they didn't go so long

Don't ask them, just do it. Do it your way for one rebalance and point out the lack of return visits for repairs and you are saving them money and time. You're in control of the abrasive ;)
