I'm about to go on Maternity (I'm not sure how long for, I'm thinking 6 months).
I just wondered if it's worth selling my full collection of Shellac and Vinylux? Did anyone else sell theirs and re-purchase before they returned? Any advice will be great :)

I am a man so I can’t say anything to the experience of maternity leave (yet [emoji6]) what advice I would give is try to figure out how long you’ve had the products for and what is newer and what is older and not so much used. I actually stopped doing nail clients 2 years ago and just started back up. I decided to give all my products away to a friend who was starting up because I knew she would appreciate it and I didn’t know how long I would be off doing new adventures. But since you know ruffly 6 months you can go thru and figure out what you should keep that will keep for that time and still be usable and throw out anything that won’t.

Colors that you bought years ago that still haven’t been emptied out or repurchased is a clear throw away, and colors that are newer that you don’t use much is a sell to another nail tech that might want to expand their range of colour. As long as the newer ones are stored dry, cool and dark it should be fine.

They all have recommended times of when they go bad after you open them. I don’t have any bottles with me at the moment, but contact the distributor and they would know.

Good luck and congratulations with the baby [emoji4]

Thank you for your reply. Yes I'm cringing at myself as it is just common sense, I'm so used to clients telling me what to do when I have the baby that I've forgotten to think for myself I think I'm just wondering if I can get away with keeping them when some will be past there best. On my last day I'm going to gather up my oldest stock and work out what I can and can't keep. There's no point in me holding onto colours that I've had a year plus and getting service breakdown when I come back as that won't bring my clients back for long.
It's just hard when you have hundreds of pounds of colours, Last thing I want to do when I come back is buy them all again as I will be on no income etc

Don't waste or throw out anything till you've tested them yourself! You'll need all your pennies for your baby!

Products are small enough to store away in a cool dark place and will more than likely still be fine. Most manufactures offer advisory rather than hard-and-fast use-by dates.

I'd restart with fresh base/top coats and try the colours out before throwing away. Most of your clients will be repeats, I'm sure, and you all you need to do is reassure them of your back-up service if they experience any problems at all.

If you do have problems also consider lamps may need replacing and when you're ready to add more colours to your range you could also look at pure gels such as IBD Just Gel - I find these more stable and long-lasting than hybrids like Shellac. Cheaper too!

Thank you, yes I'm sure my mum will be happy to be a guinea pig so I can test the colours im not sure about. I don't want to rush back to work too soon either so I would rather let them go gloopy than only give myself a few weeks/months off x
