Terminally-ill ex-nurse says nail bar refused manicure
https://dailym.ai/2IIXF8C

I was always told at college not to treat clients with cancer without a doctors note, however I did work in the nhs for a number of years and would be happy to to do a nail treatment without a note!

What do you guys think and what do your guidelines say?

Oncology departments often recommend treatments like this as a) it cheers the patient up and b) Chemotherapy can cause the patient to lose nails. They recommend using a dark colour on the nails. All tools etc used should be clean and there should be extra care taken not to cut a client as this could lead to oedema.

That’s what I thought! I would just be extra careful and crack on with it

I would expect a basic file and polish to be ok but perhaps not a gel/acrylic service?
However, probably best to check with your insurance company.

Do you know if that’s something they include in their written info. given to patients or just part of their general well-being talks?

It’s in the talks they have as part of their counselling. I had a client a couple of years ago with rather aggressive breast cancer which has since been successfully eradicated. She had regular gel polish services on natural nails.

They did advise to ensure that everything was scrupulously clean and with this in mind I kept a set of tools solely for her use.
