Hi all,

I wonder if someone could give me some advice, sorry if I sound a bit stupid but I'm not sure what to do. I did a set of nails on my niece some weeks ago. Her nails were all odd sizes so I filed them nice and neat and put on tips. Anyway she has bless her managed not to break any of them for the past 6 weeks, so Ive been doing infils and rebalances for her. Tonight I went round there and noticed when I looked under her nails her real nail (which is now grown the full length of the acrylic so they are like nno) has curled away from the acrylic so it looks like she has two tips iygwim. The acrylic was however still perfectly in place and the nails still on and very strong. She was going out so I filed them down and said next time I would soak off and start again. Have I done something wrong or will I have to soak off every six or so weeks to prevent this happening. Also if I sculpted on her would the same thing happen again. Sorry but I'm really not sure what to do. Thanks for any help xxx Ps this has also started happening to her Mum who has very similar nails!!

Some peoples nails do not grow in the perfect c curve, so after a few weeks you may well find that some natural nails will grow away from the tip.
No you dont need to soak off every 6 weeks, although you may need to do it this time, then overlay them.
If you scult them they will be fine as you are not placing a tip on them and needing them to conform to a certain shape. In fact sculpting them would be your best option.

Hi,

thank you so much, I was soooo gutted because for ages everytime I did a rebalance my niece had broken at least 4 nails!!! Now she hasnt broken them but they have curled lol. There is so much to learn with nails thank goodness I've converted to CND. More 121's coming up soon so that is something else for them to show me properly sculpting. Thanks again Miss Pink I will soak them off next week and have a go a sculpting, thank goodness my niece (apart from the curling) has very nice shaped nails. Could I just ask another silly question please. When you first sculp obvioulsy the natural free edge of the nail is short and you sculpt the tip. When you come to the rebalances the nn obviously grows out. Do you file the sculpt and nn back then rebuild a new tip otherwise surely they become overlays again. Sorry am I making sense lol xx

I think if her nails are long enough when you remove the set she has on then you dont need to file them down and sculpt just do a NNO.

If they are too curled then file them back to a good length before the curl and either NNO or sculpt them.

Hi Baggybear,

thanks for that, my sister in law (nieces Mum) seems to have the same problem as well which makes me think this is curling nails and perhaps not dehydration etc. Could I ask you as well. When doing a rebalance on say the second or third time, do you file the free edge right back and remake the tip so the natural nail is filed short again, sorry hard to make myself understood. Its just that obviously if not curling will happen again wont it. xx

I believe I read some where that using solar oil or cuticle oil & making sure it goes under the free edge too will help keep the nail flexible because as the nail dries up it starts to curl away.

This is good advice, the nail needs to stay flexible so applying cuticle oil twice daily will definitely help.
Yes, you could cut the free edge off and re sculpt the new free edge, but because you would have originally sculpted the free edge to the natural shape of the nail and not applied a tip the nail shouldn't curl.

hi Poohbear,

must admit they are both really good at using their solar oil. I gave them a mini bottle each then fill them up when they finish them from a big bottle. Because its both of them I think it could be an inherity problem. Seems strange they are both suffering the same problem. I've got a 121 with my CND educator on the 14th May for sculpting (cant wait) at least I will be able to sculpt them properly lol xx What do you do on your rebalances when sculpting and taking down the length on people.

Thats great Miss Pink. Thank you so much girls you really have been helpful. I will have have a go at sculpting myself so at least when I go for my 121 I can let them know what problems I'm having. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me. These nails really are 2 steps forward and 1 step back. I cant believe something can knock my confidence in a second and yet make me smile all day when they are good haha. Oh well more practising me thinks. Have a lovely Easter girls hope you get lots of eggs xxxxxx
