i have my sister comeing to stay for a couple of days before she fly's off to majorca on holiday and she wants her nails done but i am in a bit of a panick:eek: i have put a couple of sets of nails on her acrylic and gel but they dont seem to take to her nails, last time i spent 20 min just trying to put a tip on her thumb, she is the only person i have this problem with.
she has diabetes but it is diet managed, (no medication at moment) does this have anything to do with it, i have offered to try fiberglass for her this time but she is adimant she wants gel, she has very soft fingernails that break very easily so i use tips with a deep well area, has anyone else come accross this problem, i really want her to have a great set of nails for her holiday but havent got a clue what to do for the best,

I've decided to bump this up again... even though the post is over a month old, it's not something I like doing but I can't find the answer I'm looking for regarding diabetes and I'm hoping someone will be able to shed some light on it.

I have a client whose nails grow like mad, when they're natural she has problems keeping the length as they break easily. She has diabetes which is diet controlled, like Tracy's client.
anyway... she can't seem to keep the Fabric# natural nail overlays on for longer than a week without them chipping and/or lifting.
My prep is excellent, I follow the CND prep to the letter and always take longer than necessary just to be sure that it isn't me who's making the problem worse!!
I keep away from her skin, cuticle area and sidewalls with my resins as I know that will aid any lifting, infact I'm more careful with the whole treatment on this client than any other clients. None of my other clients have this problem and I'm tearing my hair out.

So... can diabetes have anything to do with it?

Looking forward to your replies Geeks :D
Thanks xx

I've got a thing i tell my self. Things don't just fall off, they fall for a reason, ie put a cup on the edge of a table, it falls because, it was knocked, not put on table properly.
What I'm saying is nails don't just fall off, they come off because there knocked or not applied prop, so if your sure your prep etc is v good, then its the being knocked thats doing it.
Only my view.

they're chipping and/or lifting, never all in one piece or anything like that.
She is a beauty therapist who also does Manicure and Pedicure treatments and looks after her nails really well.

Could it have anything to do with the speed at which her natural nails grow?

they do start to curl slightly when they get longer.
I've advised her to oil the underside of them aswell as the cuticle etc

Oooh... forgot to mention... I ALWAYS take off cuticle remover with a citrusoak and water mix, so I know it's not that either... that's why I wondered if Diabetes could have anything to do with it.

well my mother has severe diabetes and needs to inject 3 or 4 times daily, and she keeps her nails 3 weeks with no lifting. so i would not have thought that someone with such a mild form of the disease should have more problems than my mum does. have you tried other types of overlay on her ?

not yet, I'm due to train in Brisa so will give that a go on her.

Thanks for the info Angel, it's good to know that your mum is able to keep her enhancements with her diabetes, especially as it's the injectable kind (if that makes sense).

I've asked her if she is doing/using something that would affect them but she doesn't seem to think so.
hey ho, will keep on plugging away with her until i get to the bottom of it.

I've had several clients with diabetes and no probs, but everybody reacts differently.

Hi, I'v been diabetic ( inject) for six years now and never have problems with my gel lifting,
someone did say that the client had very soft nails that break easily , this could be that the client has Onychatrophia the characteristics of this would be Degeneration of the nail, Thin , fragile and break easy, lose shine and seperation may occur. This is more common in diabetics & people with nervous disorders and should be refered to a GP if this is the case. Hope this helps. x :wink2:

I have this problem with my own nails (a bit rough for a tech heh!), not even nail varnish stays on my nails or my toe nails for that matter. I have been told it is because I have excessively oily nail beds yuk! I don't know of anything that can be done for it, but would love to find out.

I had gel nails done when I was pregnant, since I couldn't stand the smell of monomer. The gels WOULD NOT STICK!!! They literally peeled off on the drive home from the salon! Maybe it's a hormonal thing that makes them not stick?
