Hello geeks

I have an apprentice who's been with us for about half a year now. She's currently studying nvq 2 hair and she has also studied and passed in lash extentions

She is a lovely asset to the salon alongside my chair renter who is also brilliant.

However I am in a quandary over where to go with her once she's qualified in around a year.

From your personal experience, would you suggest employing her or would self employed be the best route? I'm hoping to have a few options I can offer her. Obviously with employment, I would need to get to grips with the hassle of employing someone and the possibility of future babies etc and being without a staff member who still needs paying....eeek

Self employed would be ideal but she's young so may not feel comfortable doing that especially as pay can fluctuate and my current chair renter would have the majority of the work so they could end up fighting over the clients!

Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks x

If she is a good fit for the salon and you have clearly invested in her training then I would employ her. Maybe only part time hours to start on your busy days with the possibility of overtime in busy periods. I think home grown is the best way to get decent staff and if you like her and she can earn her wage, you don't want her going elsewhere!
