Hi Geeks,

Ive been colouring this clients hair for a few years now, but have been having problems over the last few months and wondered how others would tackle this.

She is a base 5 with probably a good 40% grey in the the obvious areas, behind ears, temples, crown. She has quite fine hair.

About 6 months ago we started adding lowlites and I put bleach with 3% and left till it went a lovely caramel colour, then 55/0 wella between, but over a few months of this it started to fade so quickly that she wanted to go back to just her dark brown.

Now what happens is it doesnt always take on the ends - I do roots with 6% and then water this down and comb through for last 10 mins. Last time I did her hair I pre-pigged with a red and I did get a much better colour coverage and it hasnt faded as much as before but...

I'm not sure what to do this time? shall I pre-pig again or should it be ok this time? Wondering if I should use a different brand, used to use L-oreal ... Ooh this is when I hate working alone, I need people to share these problems with, hope some Geeks can help ::D

It is fading due to the porosity caused by keep combing the tint through. Use a matching colour semi on the midlengths and ends instead and you will getter a better, longerlasting result. Am not a wella user so can't give you a recipe.

Thanks for reply - I have tried using a semi in the past started so may try that again.

Do you think a protein spray to level porosity would be good? and can anyone recommend a good one.

Thanks again

Jo
