I was in the legal field for 20 years (criminal defense paralegal), began disliking it greatly in the final years as I was growing depressed in having to visit federal prisons/watching clients get sentenced to years (for the most part), it takes a psychological toll after a while; I was done. It will be a year this January that I decided to go to school for my full specialist license (nail & skin) as it's called in the US. I decided I was going to make this my career and dove head first. I got licensed and I've gotten certified (CND, Lechat & Jessica), I love nails more than I do skincare. My first tradeshow was last summer, I couldn't and can't get enough of anything nails! I can be on this forum all day just reading away and applying the tips and tricks to my everyday-- eager to soak as much knowledge and practice. I decided to cash my chips, look for nail salon space (been waiting since June) and I get the keys to my very own space this Wednesday! I have gotten a serious case of the jitters-- OH DEAR... I consider myself to be quite confident and when I love something, I give it my ALL but I'M TERRIFIED guys...Has anyone experienced these jitters when going into business? I don't know if it's the lack of experience in the field (compared to most of you on here), or the fact that I'm going into business for myself or BOTH! Any tips/tricks you can share anyone? I welcome them all. Sorry for the vent but who better than you guys?;)

Following this closely. My story is very similar. I open for business on Tuesday. Was in banking (lending) for 18 years until this career change. So excited! and a bit nervous...

The nerves show you care & how passionate you are about your new career move working for you! It's only natural to have slight apprehension/anxiety/nerves, but you need to apply these feelings positively!! If you are passionate this will shine through in your work! Just remember you know your stuff, be confident in your knowledge of the industry! Put the hours in & I'm sure you will make this work & go onto be the owner of a successful business with a fantastic reputation!! Enjoy the adventure......GOOD LUCK! X

Oh, I've been in the industry for over 15 years and I recently moved 400 miles away. We created a beautiful home salon space in our new home and it is - to me - the perfect space for what I need. All my clients comment on how relaxing the atmosphere is, they all love the sparkly paint and there is not one who has failed to be impressed by my shellac display.

I felt SO sick before my first few clients! It's only natural when, as fluffy says, you are so passionate about your new venture.

You'll be fine, you know your stuff - its not like you've done a one-day-covers-all nail course and suddenly you're setting up.

Good luck.

Good replies given above.
I've been doing clients for nearly 30 years now and I still feel a bit nervous when I have a new client booked in!
The nerves are just because we care about giving an excellent service to each and everyone of our clients, no matter how long they have been visiting us.

The day to worry about is the day you stop caring...
:)
