Hi I've been lucking for a while, some of geeks are very helpful and have great knowledge!

So I'm looking for some advice..

I've decided to change colours we have been using indola and tigi, not impressed with tigi at all! Indola has great coverage but a tube doesnt go far.. I've been talking to my friend that works for Sally's, she said a lot of the salons in our area have changed to XP100/200 as its a great colour and they do a fab bulk buy price. Has anyone used it?

Things are pretty hard around my area, as I'm sure most people are the same in this climate. Groupon have hit our area so people are expecting full head foils for £30-£45 which I refuse to do!! I need a good colour that doesn't cost the earth.. Help any advice?

Also I do a lot of bridal hair which I love, but have wondered if my prices are too low/high could anyone share what kind of prices they charge, i know that's a cheeky. Sorry if I offend anyone

Thank you for reading..x

hey :)
i personally have never heard of xp colours but just had a look at sallys after reading your post.
being a 100ml tube they would help a lot but the price seems high for something i havent heard of which could pose a problem for you as clients can be reluctant to try something theyve never heard of!
i use Affinage which are 100ml tubes but a lot cheaper that these xp colours and i cant fault them! have a look at affinage.com/uk for more info and distributors near you.
matrix, i believe are aldo cheaper and 90/100ml tube (not sure which) and i hear a lot of good things about them too.

if you want more info about prices, pm me as we arent meant to post product prices in the forums :)

Perry x

Matrix are 90ml tubes and you get 2 applications from each tube, easy to get hold off even at short notice, training is second to none and their quasi range makes going from blonde to dark the easiest process ever as you don't need to prepig!! I can pm u matrix prices also if you wish!

That would be great thank you.. I'll look at matrix and see if there is a supplier other than Sally's near me.. X

XP is dreadful stuff.
Matrix is gonna be a million times better.

In answer to your other question, I charge £49.50 for a bridal updo.

hi!
i use xp 200 as for me its easier to get hold of at short notice and a tube goes quite far. im in the same boat as you, people looking for cheap prices in an area where hair and beauty prices seem to be stuck in 1993 :( its no use when your trying to make a living.
I've found the xp200 is much better than the 100 range, better grey coverage and hair seems softer once coloured. ALthough I use majirouge and majicontrast for reds as the xp range just isnt good enough. I know everyone has their own preferences, I think its ok but I've not tried a huge range of others tbh.
and i charge £40+ for a bridal updo :)

I've been charging £50 per hour, a bride and 3 bridesmaids normally take me around 3hours give or take.. Do you charge for trials?

I'm looking at matrix now, can't find prices. I've mailed them to see if there is anyone other than Sally's to supply me..

yup - i charge £30 for bride trial and £20 per bridesmaid trial, and on the day i also charge a travel cost if its not local, and thats from 40 for bride and 30 per bridesmaid, so think we work out about the same!! i was looking to change to an hourly rate instead though :)

I've worked out some figures and matrix are both cheaper per 100ml than indola, think im mad not to have noticed this sooner..

Thank you very much for all you advice! I will be an active poster and not a lurker from now on!

Do you use branded peroxide? Or wholesalers own? Matrix are a little bit more but then if anything was to go wrong your covered! This was just an after thought! X

Normally wholesalers own.. I'm open to using branded peroxide if it's a good match to the product..

I've tried to contact matrix but had no reply yet.. I cant find any wholesale or reps other than Sally's in northern Ireland. Do you have any contact details for matrix?
