Is there much call for normal polish manicures nowadays?

I've been reading through the board for a while and doing some research as I'm about to do a nail course and hopefully go mobile I was just wondering do you offer normal polish? as everything seems to be about shellac and other gel polish.

If you do what top coats do you use as the ones I have always chip really quickly

I do offer normal polish. I have 0 manicure clients with normal polish however it is used more often than not for pedicures. Rarely I will have someone want it over enhancements too but normally everyone wants Shellac.

I use CND Vinylux and Shellac. Both excellent. I like the fact a lot of the colours are matched in each range.
For manicures I would say I do 80% shellac & 20% Vinylux
For pedicures I would say I do 90% Vinylux and 10% Shellac (probably with nail art)

For top coats I stock the 3 Shellac topcoats for use with the gel polish and the Vinylux Top coat when I apply Vinylux colour.

0 polish clients for me...all shellac or gel polish for fingers & toes

I've yet to do a polish manicure and have done 1 polish pedicure in 2 years

I do encourage my pedicure clients to choose normal polish over Shellac as I absolutely hate the fiddly wrapping process of soak off on toes

My pedicure clients love that they can put their shoes on straight away with shellac, no smudging

I only offer 'regular' polish. I've stuck to my guns and in the last year there's been a huge increase in clients wanting regular, not gel or Shellac. My Pedi's last at least 4 weeks chip-free and most of my mani clients get 7-14 days (depending how rough they are on their hands!) I'm happy to recommend a couple of (very good!) local Nail Techs if clients want gel or nail art etc. I'm not a nail tech... it's not my speciality..... my nail clients come to me because they want strong, healthy, natural nails, or to get their nails back to health after damage. It works for me :) Whole different ball game in the UK though I think. Very different market !!
