I am excited and wanted to share this with you not only as a thank you to those who gave me advice, but also as this may assist others!

As some of you may remember, I posted on here just over two weeks ago as I had had Onycholysis on my finger for about 8 months and it wasn't getting better, in fact it was getting worse and HALF of my nail plate was lifted.

I was advised that even if wearing really short enhancements wasn't working to bite the bullet and take it off and leave it off.

I begrudgingly did so, and have been applying solar oil daily on top and underneath the lifting as well as using OPI's Nail Envy, and already the nail plate has reattached itself back to my nail bed... It's is still a different colour to the rest of my nail and there is still a couple of mm's of lifting near the top, but I have noticed how much it has improved just by the fact that I can hardly get my solar oil brush under that free edge anymore.

I am gobsmacked, that it seems to have reattached so quickly.. Is that normal??!

I know it will be a few months until the reattached bit grows out, it's a sort of mucky white colour at the mo, so not v. attractive, but nicer than a nail that levered back and forth loosely! Ew!

I am going to be good and not apply a new enhancement until the discoloured bit has grown out, just in case it is still weak.

So thanks for your advice geeks, at this rate I will have a FULL set of enhancements and be Onycholysis free by Crimbo! LOL!

I am glad all your patience has paid off. Thanks for keeping us posted!

Thats good to know as I have just taken mine off and cut my nails really short as I have onycholysis too. Hopefully mine will clear up soon too.

Thanks peeps,

Yes I will remain strong in my resolve and keep the enhancement off until it has grown out.

Funny thing is, I am squeamish about the condition on my own nail, but don't think I would be if a client had it. But saying that, at least I will be well equipped in advising a client with Onycholysis in future or even if they had the onset of it.. I would would go the whole-hog and recommend the enhancement comes off there and then, to nip it in the bud.

If I had stopped wearing enhancements when I first got the Onycholysis then it prob would have gone in a month, instead I kept of catching my nail and making it worse.

Hey Ali, hope your's clears up soon, slap on the solar oil and get some Nail Envy or Toughen Up. Good luck.

When I took my enhancements off recently I noticed some minor onycholysis on a couple of my nails. I am pretty sure it's from having my nails too long..

I've cut my nails back short and don't have any enhancements on. I'm also appliying my solar oil regularly.

What else should I do??

Do you cut off the effected part of the nail? or just trim them back short?
Is it okay to wear nail polish over them??

Thanks :)

I just trimmed it short, past the fingertip. Didn't touch the lifted bit as didn't want to aggravate it.

Yep, slick on the Solar Oil, on the top and down the back of the lifting, and whack on some Nail Envy or Toughen Up.. No prob's in wearing polish to my knowledge.

Thanks for the advice :)
