Hi all. I'd really appreciate some help for my poor mum who has had a bit of a DIY hair disaster.

She is completely grey, usually her hairdresser uses a dark blonde on her hair. Unfortunately her appointment was cancelled and she decided to do a home colour. Her hairdresser advised to get one from the supermarket which was a number 7. My mum ended up getting a number 8. It has come out with a very orange tinge and she would like to correct this quickly as we have my son's christening on Sunday.

Can anyone advise what to do to make it darker and take the orange tinge away? Can she just buy another clairol but a darker shade?

Really really appreciate your help on this, and so does my mum :o

Just a quick amendment. Sorry the hairdresser advised my mum to go to a hairdressing wholesalers, who would not sell her the product for obvious reasons. It was then the wholesalers who sent her to a superstore.

Her hairdresser is mobile and does a great job with good rates. Unfortunately my mum cannot afford to go to a salon and would just like some advice as to how to make it look a bit better. I appreciate this is not what what you would advise as professionals but wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Thanks again

Could try a violet/purple shampoo which over time counteract the orange,

Thank you for replying. The problem is the christening is on Sunday so not sure there will be enough time to have much effect. My mum is set on just getting another colour just darker, I just don't want to make it worse for her, do you think this is possible?

Thanks again and I do appreciate this is not the professional advice you would wish to give a client ...

Just re read my fist replay so if it sounded harsh didn't mean to

Can't understand why someone should send her to the wholesale knowing she wouldn't beable to buy it, would have been easier for the hairdresser to buy it and drop it off if she was happy doing it (again I would never tell someone to do their colour them self)

No I didn't take it as harsh and thanks for giving advice. My mum used to be able to buy from Sally's but obviously things have changed since then. I guess we'll just see what happens lol

Hey! I agree with the purple shampoo idea. The best I've found is "A Touch Of Silver" which you can get from boots - there is a weekly treatment which is stronger than the normal shampoo so I would definitely advise to buy that, it works immediately. Leave it on a bit before washing out (but not too long). It's cheap too, around £3 - good luck!
