I thought I'd share this with you....

While in California on hols I decided I'd go and get a fill on my gel nails which I did myself about a week before my hols. I was curious as to how it was done stateside....(This is not a criticism of the professional nail techs in the US, its my fault for going to a low priced salon)

I went in and asked for a fill, the guy proceed to remove to gel with cuticle nippers - ripping it of the gel from my nail bed and when I jumped back in pain he pressed my nail bed to stop it the pain - as if this would help. Half my nail bed was taken with the gel....I was shocked and told him that in the UK and Ireland the gel was buffed down - he told me that manual work was too much to do and he wouldn't be doing nails if he couldn't use his drill or nippers.......

I told them I wouldn't go ahead with the extensions and could I just have a manicure instead....again this was a very rough and heavy handed experience by one of the ladies

This is what gives the industry a bad name

Thats what happens when you go to "chop shops" here in the U.S. The majority of them have Vietnemese/Asian workers. The good nail techs who care about their clients work in places like dayspas, stuff like that. I know how those people in those shops can be, all rough handling. Sorry you had that experience though, I wouldnt have liked it either!

Bloody hell

I would of took the nippers and nipped some thing off that dangled from him if he had done that to my nails

lazy sod

I just would have left...no client card..!! no consultation..!! no sanitation..!! These would have been enough to tell me that my bum is not going in that chair...never mind the nippers, he wouldn't have got that far.

Your right it does give the industry a bad name...but then to be honest i don't see them as part of OUR industry. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

OMG! That is horrific, what a butcher! I hope you didnt let him remove all 10. I am truely shocked!

Yep, in America there are good nail techs and there are bad nail techs just like the rest of the world just as there are good plumbers and bad plumbers, etc. And it doesn't have anything to do with race...

Unfortunately, the cheaper shops are a lot rougher as they need to get clients in and out - quick!

As Amber says, a day spa may have been a better experience for you.

I hope your nails have recovered.

Take care,

Kx
