hi , I’m going to be doing highlights on already highlighted hair (full head) using 20 vol. the client had deep red hair before and the colour is starting to show through and going more orange. I will be using Koleston Perfect 10/1 as a toner afterward. Am I best using peroxide (20vol) or pastel?
Thinking the peroxide would maybe cause unnecessary damage?

Or am I best scrapping the highlights and doing Koleston + peroxide all over? But would that lift the orange?

No. 1 rule, Tint doesn’t lift tint.
Did you use a colour reducer to take out the red before doing the highlights?
Is the orange simply the faded toner?
/1 in Wella only subdues tone, it doesn’t neutralise anything.

You know I think the orange is faded toner tbh.

You’ll need a blue based toner then and be careful not to overlap the highlights.

Thank you for your reply [emoji173]️

Don’t over lap the highlights use 6% with blondor or even coco then you would probs have to do 2 different toners one on the roots cause that’s going to lift clean and then something on the ends that blue based like 10/8 or even drop the tone to a 9 base and use pastel for your toner :)

I agree with what the others have said. As far as developer, pastel is a 6 vol and has an ingredient that makes 70% of the ammonia in your permanent color evaporate. It is recommended for levels 9's and 10's because they are higher ammonia content to begin with, and you're using them over already lightened hair. It is less damaging to the hair than 20 vol, and will work faster (5-15 mins over shampooed towel dried hair). There's still 30% of the ammonia left, so it can shift your level a bit. Won't lift as much as 20 vol though.

Pastel is 1.5% but for permanent colours which means you can use permanents the same way you would use a semi it’s there to give you more options I only asked out wella teacher about this last week
