After some advice... one of my employees did a perm last week and the lady has returned today to raise concerns that she has some serious root breakage. It's isn't throughout the hair just in random areas through the side (mainly one side)
Acclaim acid perm was used (as we always do) her hair was virgin.
It's seems the damage is on some of the wind sections but the wind was apparently quite loose? The hair feels like it has been shaved but not throughout the whole of the sections?
Any advice would be greatly received? I have never seen this before.

That breakage at the root is due to a poor wind. :(
I’m guessing the stylist didn’t use sticks to lift the bands off of the hair.
Nothing can improve this situation.....except time..
Always keep the bands off of the hair, especially at the root area. ;)

Sometimes using bands can increase breakage , as increases the pressure at either side of the rod , the rods on sale these days seem to come with really stiff straight edge bands
The thin circular bands are best as they don’t rest on the Hair
I have seen this type of breakage on perms wound with molten brown rollers ( bendy ) which makes me think winding too tightly causes it too !

Only if you wind with too much tension......;)

I'm seeing LOT'S of perming posts on social media.....and it's GREAT to know that the PERM is back on trend!
BUT......
Folk need to understand what is happening chemically to the hair BEFORE they perm it.....
To assume that just by adding OLAPLEX, you can pretty much curl anything....is a BIG mistake........
Bleached, broken, home coloured, waist length.....
Please understand, some hair - OLAPEXED or not - just might not be 'up for it'!:p
As good as OLAPLEX is....it is NOT a substitute for good judgement or technique:cool:

Glad to hear perming is making a comeback. Bring it on!
I love perming on bendy rollers although I’ve only ever done one of those on a real client. Most of my bendy roller perms were during my college experiments trying to create ‘interesting effects’ on fellow students.:D

Apparently it’s not part of the training anymore !

It hasn't been for about 10 years now it's an optional unit. My qualification doesn't include perming but I've learnt as I've been working in salons.

I would love it if product companies really tried to make perms better, more modern, less damaging and less smelly!

I don’t think there has been an investment in perming due to the wane in popularity , apparently olaplex was originally developed to be used in perming ( I read somewhere )
However with the Amount of colouring most clients have nowadays I can’t see it really taking off !

If you understand the chemical process... are good at what you do....respect the fact you are completely changing the ‘arrangement’ of the internal structure of the hair....PERMING IS FAB!
I’ve banged on about ‘The return of the perm’ FOREVER....:p

Get good at it, and you will never look back.
You can completely transform the 'material' you are working with.

As it is a skill rarely taught nowadays, those who are trained, can really take advantage of this upturn in interest!;)

Looks like the hair snapped at the root even if your rollers are loose, sometimes if there's too much hair /sections too deep this causes more pressure when the band rests against the hair, unfortunately the extra pressure is at the root and this is where it will snap off if anywhere. Did the stylist do an I compatability test?
