just looking for a bit of advice, I have a client come to me for acrylic nails, After applying the tip I usually work the smile line with my white powder, then use the pink for the other zones, she has lovely dark skin on her hands and I just think the pink looks too artificial, would the natural powder look better? Also I have been reading a few other threads and what do you mean by reducing the contact area, is this the well area because I am training at the minute and was not told to do this. With this client she has wide flat nails and I am finding it hard to find which tip is right for her and getting it to stick, I was told to use deep c but I find these too thick looking, any ideas?

Not sure about the powder colour as it's along time since my l&p days and I tend to use clear gels! But I do remember vaguely that it is better to use clear powder on darker skins.

With regard your client with wide flat nails, you must NOT use a tip with a deep c curve as it will put undue pressure on the nail plate and could result in "pingers"!

You need to find a flatter type of tip, and even then sometimes you have to go a size or too bigger so that it is flat enough (you should not have to force the well of the tip down onto the nail plate so that it "bends" to fit the shape of the natural nail) and then tailor the sides by filing it to fit the width of the natual nail. Another hint is to cut a couple of little nicks into the well of the tip so that it fits better.

(sorry I am pants at explaining things in words, hope this made sense)

Thanks for that, I was given the advice of using c curve by my tutor believe it or not! I knew they did'nt look right, I was using the bigger tips so I had a lot of tailoring to do, and yes one has pinged off already after 4 days with one nearly off, I think I will listen to my own mind next time and not to my so called tutor! I will try the more natural colour powder when she comes back and will do a new set, good tip putting a couple of nicks in the well, must try that. You have explained it great, thanks for that x

Hiya xxx

You could custom mix some powders to match her natural skin tone...or what about clear...?

Reducing the contact area is removing some of the well...and pre-blending is just that...thinning down the contact area (well) b4 putting it on the nail.

Great tips for wide flat nails are Creatives Eclipse...or you could upsize ... use a tip that is too big so it sits flatter but just pre-tailor it so it fits from side to side of the natural nail.

Also removing or reducing the well can make the tip a tiny bit bigger..so just bear that in mind.

Hope this helps...enjoy the site xxxx

I can believe it!! I have 3 different type of tips that cover me for just about every eventuality - and even then sometimes i have to sculpt instead!

I would use clear, natural still has a little pink in it. also, see if you can find a peach color powder. if she is dark skinned, peach is GORGEOUS!!
