Hello everyone!

I currently charge £10 for a manicure, and £12 for a pedicure which includes a polish.
A few of my clients have said that perhaps I should charge separately for a polish, as they say a lot of salons and therapists do this. They suggested £5 extra.
Is this the right thing to do? I charge extra for a polish on acrylic nails, but not on natural nail treatments.
I'm also pretty sure that some of my clients would not like the extra charge on mani/pedis.
What do you think?
Lots of love, Marina xx

Are they mini manis and pedis?

Your prices are very low!

I would charge extra chick as it will make you that bit extra on top!

Hi marina,

I charge an extra £8.00 for a colour and no extra for a natural colour like Creative's Negligee, very popular!!!

Hope this helps!!

Hi,

These are full manis and pedis. What do you think is a reasonable price?
I live in Portsmouth, where there's loads of salons, lots are NSS, and cheap overall for all aspects of nails.
It's hard to compete here, and many clients are, to put it politely, not afraid to compare with other salons/therapists to your face!!
I'd love to charge more...but whats a good rate for mani/pedi.
I use EZFlow spa elements, and I use essential oils. I also charge £14 for a hot oil manicure and £15 for a foot mask treatment. Is this ok or could I charge more?
Many thanks for your helpful replies!!
Love, Marina xx

Rose why do you charge £8 but not for negligee?
I don't charge any extra for varnish and I thought it would be expected in a mani or pedi.

I must admit polish is included in my man's and ped's and I charge £12.50 for either soon to put it up to £15 as not making much on these!!

I think because I consider it a Natural and it may as well be a top coat, it's very light and doesn't take me long to apply it, sounds stupid I know but when I use the darker colours I need to be extra careful around the cuticle area and it takes me that little bit longer.

My theory ....... :o

Hi what i do is charge £3.50 extra for polish with a service, any nail service. However if they should chose a polish from the retail stand to buy i will polish them FOC that time only with their polish.

For any nail treatments i charge extra for a polish and extra for a french polish (£2 & £4)

You say that there are lots on NSS salons near you, if it were me i would not lower my prices to compete with these "salons". YOU are providing a professional service resulting in quality nails, and there will always be those who choose these cheaper places to have their nails done, no matter how little you charge. BUT on the other hand there are those clients who demand quality and professionalism, and people will pay for quality.

Don't sell yourself short, educate your clients about the care of their nails and it's upto YOU toshow them how nail enhancements are ment to be.

Polish is included in my basic mani's ($15) and pedi's ($20). but french is extra ($3).

Most of you sound to be doing the smart thing by charing extra for polish.

A good polish job takes time ... 10 minutes per individual. If you only have 6 clients per day, then that means you are working for one hour unpaid if you are not charging.

Why only charge for a French polish? .. it takes the same amount of time to do either. You must get paid for the time you work and the services you provide.
Not to do so is both unprofessional and not smart.

My mani and pedi prices include a price for polish, and I reduce it if they don't have one ( same principle, just the other way round!)

Same as Sassy, I factored in for polishing time when I priced up my manis and pedis, so they include it, but a french is extra (extra time, extra product) and I also charge extra on top of enhancements, because the time and products are not already taken into account in the price there. If a client didn't want a colour I would still use two coats of a strengthener or combined top&basecoat and so I wouldn't drop the price I don't think, but it's never come up.
If a client brings in a color they want used they I might knock £1 off the price, but no more than that as I am still charging for my topcoat, basecoat, and my time.
Personally as I client I would expect a manicure price to include a polish as I see it as an integral part of the service, as do many clients. I have been put off in the past as a client when I have been asked at the end 'now, do you want polish? That will be £x extra' because I don't see a manicure as 'finished' otherwise.

This post has really got me thinking. If polish was always an extra with infills/re-balances, that would work to benefit both the client and the tech. This way, they could have a cheaper fortnightly bill if they're happy to paint they're own nails, thus leaving more time for the tech to fit in another 1 to 2 sets of infills in a working day.

I know in all the salons that I've ever been in, polish is included. It doesn't make sense..............not for the cost. The average price of a polish in a salon in Essex is £8 and £9 for French. If a set of infills are say £22, that means that they are really paying around £14 for infills that are taking about one and a half hours or more. So, take off £4 (products and polish) and that leaves £10 being made for one and a half hours work. Some may think that's not too bad but think about salon owners with all their overheads.

Can anyone suggest the best way of suggesting this on a service menu?

Cheers. xxx

I've made up this little sign in bright pink paper and was going to stick it up on the wall next to my nail art board (which is right by the client's head on the nearest wall!), or maybe make it stand up on my desk. I'm not 100& sure about the wording and prices just yet which is why I haven't stuck it up yet. I definitely don't have room for it on my price list though, since I shrunk it down to a 1/3 a4 size, so I guess if I had mobile client I'd just have to explain it before I start.

I used to have the line 'Please add £2.50 to the above services for a french polish finish" below my mani/pedi section but had to take it off for space reasons.. maybe I should put it back on? In case clients think they've been misled when they come to pay?

i think you should charge extra, it doesnt have to be loads, but a few extra quid in your pocket is never a bad thing. I know what you mean about the people in Portsmouth not being backwards in coming forwards, Its where i was born!!! but i can say that they do realise if they are getting a good job done! If they want ruined fingers by these NSS places, then let them. They will soon be coming back with their tails between their legs!!!!

Good Luck
