Hi everyone.

Does anyone else think that this is possible nail separation? This is my own nail and I am a trainee nail tech [emoji30]. Thanks in advance. X

Hi,

It looks to me like you have had something hit the hyponychium which has created a little bit of 'lift'.
I've done this plenty of times when I've gone to pick something up and its pushed underneath my nail and it looks like this.
Nothing to worry about unless there is something else going on :)

Looks like onycholisis to me, seperation of the nail plate from the nail bed, and also a bit of delamination too (seperation of the layers of nail plate) probably due to training, possibly thinning of the nail from overfiling when blending tips, or over vigorous when removing gel polish, etc. Not uncommon for us to damage our nails when training, all part and parcel of the learning process.

You can't fix the damage, you just need to wait for it to grow out. Lots of Solar Oil on and under the nail to promote growth and keep the nail supple so it doesn't buckle as it dries up. If it was my nail I'd probably file it super super short and get off as much of the free edge as possible to ensure it didn't 'travel' but I know some people are desperate for length so would keep it longer.

 Ignore me then haha! Above sounds more like it!
Although I do jam underneath my nail quite a lot so always look like this

Thank you for your replies! This has really helped. I shall be taking the length down X

Could well be from jamming something under the nail too, don't be hard on yourself :D but as a tech in training, more likely to be self inflicted damage, thats why we practise on ourselves and learn the hard way  (been there, done that, got the teeshirt, starred in the movie ;) )

Yes! I've definitely been there with the over filing when I first trained. Live and learn :D
