One of my regular waxing clients is pregnant. Shes approx 3 months although I need to clarify this with her on her next appointment. Shes developed gestational diabetes with her pregnancy.

To cut it short I copied this from the web:
During pregnancy, various hormones block the usual action of insulin. This helps to make sure your growing baby gets enough glucose. Your body needs to produce more insulin to cope with these changes. Gestational diabetes develops when your body can't meet the extra insulin demands of the pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes usually begins in the second half of pregnancy, and goes away after the baby is born. If it doesn't go away after the baby is born, it's possible that you already had diabetes and that it was picked up during your pregnancy. The other forms of diabetes, called type 1 and type 2 diabetes, are life-long conditions.

My question is .... is it ok to wax my client? She is more than happy to have her usual treatments. And even to sign a consent form. I dont actually have any other diabetic clients for waxing x

I would get her to bring a doctors note. Better safe than sorry x

I've just had a similar thing with a new client being type 2 diabetic. In the end although I thought I was being over cautious I got a G.P note before I waxed her. My insurance company also advised me to do this when I contacted them. She was more than happy that I was professional enough to think about it. Hope this helps.

Hi - I too would definately get a GP note in this case. I would not consider it without one. :)

Get a odc note but no only to protect yourself, but to protect her. Sometimes clients will tell little white lies when they're desperate to get a treatment done and she may not be telling you the full story. So yes.....docs note. xxx

Thanks guys. I should of mentioned shes a nurse, and also a close friend of my mums ... shes said she understands that should any problems arise she'd take full responsibility. Ive asked her to check with her midwife also. x
