I have got a bit of a strange question for you all! i have got a client who i sculpt, she started off with really short nails but are now starting to grow up under the acrylic (as they do) but she doesnt like to see her own nails underneath the sculpts when the start to grow up! so what do i do do i just soak them off every couple of times she comes back for her rebalance, cut the nails back then reapply her a full set? thats the only way i can think of? i have tried to explain to her that eventually her nails will grow right up and the acrylic will just be an overlay but she aint havin it, what yous think?

Hi Kirsty

I have 2 clients like this, they just hate their own nails showing up behind the enhancements so we soak off and reapply every couple of months or so.

As we as technicians are not damaging the natural nail and using a buffered product to soak off, I see no prolem with it.

Thanks for your reply, i thought it was fine to do this just think shes a bit mad he he, so once you soak off i take it you just file/cut the nails back then re-apply?

Kirsty, my guess is that she hates seeing the discoloration of her natural nail rather than just the fact that she can see it. If this is the case, then maybe think about using something to get the natural nail looking bright and clean. If she left them to grow, they'd be the same length as the acrylics anyway.

The more I'm learning, the more I'm against soaking off just for the sake of it. HTH. xxx

Thanks for your replies (kimmy to)

i think that is the prob that she doesnt like to see the colour of them, this nailbrite do i use it each time she comes (is it safe to use on acrylic) or do i just use it before i put the enhancements on?

it says on the bottle you can use it every other day so yes i cant see why you couldnt use it every time she comes in....i have used it on nails when i have been doing manicures (good for smokers fingers!)
also i had a woman who had the grubbyest hands ever! i used it to clean her enhancements underneath where it looked a little like she worked in a farm yard!
i have used it on both natural and enhanced nails and never had a problem with it so i thinks its safe to use (dont quote me as i am very often wrong lol) but i doesnt say on it not to use it on acrylic nails so im guessing its sound! it just says dont get it on your clothing might mark it.

The other thing you could do is custom blend the nail bed so it is disguised then just rebalance as normal and no show through.

Hi Scatty

Am fairly new to nails so am not to familiar with creatives custom blending(take it thats what your talking about) but i have heard about it, how would this help exactly and how do i do this? also do creative do training for using the custom blending kit do you know?

there is a training class but believe it is part of their master system.

have a search on here and you will find loads of recipes, so then you mix your base colour but when your sculpting it get a centre from a clear form and test against their skin tone so make sure it will cover and try against the free edge as well. you then sculpt up and over to make a false nail bed so disguising the the free edge, or yu use a tone that will his he bed totally and the free edge wont show then.

Do a search there is loads on info on it.

but to be honest i havent got a clue what you mean he he he its probably part of the master system cause it sounds way to advanced for me iam trying to suss it out but it just aint going in, i`ll take your advice and do some searches i might grasp it once i have read more about it, thanks for your time anyways its much appreciated x

Hi,
I am a bit confused here......why wouldn't you do a full re balance which would replace the smile line back where it should be and her regrowth would not show through?

If you do not want to do that then ,yes, there is the option of custom blending an opaque colour...or just using Flawless pink which is an opaque pink in zones 2&3....which would be simpler ....

Sorry people i think i have confused you all, i dont mean when she sees her nail showing through when her rebalance is due i mean on the under side of the enhancement you know if you have your palm facing towards you and you can see the underside of your nail growing thats wehat i mean

scatty ...think she means the nail growing under the tip...from behind..not the nail bed free edge. (oh thanks for the gift babes...lovely supprise xx)

I have also had clients who don't like to see there nails growing under the tip but i have asked them to be patient as it only looks so bad..and obvious cos its half nail and halt tip...and the tip always looks a nicer colour. Once the nail has out grown the tip...(and i have found it doesn't take that long) you don't notice it as much cos the tip is no longer there...its just a natural nail overlay. You really only notice the discolour more when your half way through growing them...then it looks fine. xxxx

Doh!...now Kimmi and Katzmoz replies make more sense too......It has been a long working day......yes the nail brite would work......and so would a fizzing glass of Steradent the denture cleaner....just get you client to pop her nails in a glass of that and it will fizz and clean and whiten her natural nails.....what is she doing looking in there anyway!!!!...try and reassure her that soaking isn't the way to go and if she perseveres an overlay would be her ideal............

I think you've just answered my next question. Custom Blending aside, what is the best Creative powder for covering imperfections and that isn't too pinky? Is it Flawless Izzy? xxx

Definitely Kimmi....but if you do find it a bit too pink then just add a small amount of white into it to tone it down.....that will keep it opaque....adding clear or perfect pink will just make it less opaque and less of a camouflage........The only slight problem is that opaque colours are a bit flat.....I add a smidgin of the metro melting pot (yes that dark brown one!!) and the holographic effect gives it a bit more depth....but just a wee smidgin mind!!!
