Is this even allowed for people to take the course with no practical to it and be qualified as a nail technician! I paid near thousands for my courses and some people get to the it for 19 pound on a discount app [emoji35] sorry if this post isn't allowed I will easy remove it just need a rant

I saw this course! And felt exactly the same. A friend even suggested I do it, instead of a practical course. Oh how I laughed

Sadly its that whole 'buyer beware' scenario, if you are daft enough to believe that a £19 course is enough to set you up to run a business then more fool you. We're lucky, these days we have Google to rely on to do some research, it doesn't take long to find out what you need to know to be well informed.

I get more angry at the training providers, they should be ashamed of themselves for taking money from people for worthless courses.

Just so maddening! I guess I just feel so deflated just now with practicing on my friends and family for over a year. Spending all that time and effort to develop my skills before I started my own business. The price I have had to pay as well then there's these people that can pay 19 pound and can go ahead to do nails. The worst thing is the person I have saw doing it is only doing it to gain max profit. Cheap course cheap products. Need I say any more. I just don't understand how it's allowed!

Hopefully consumer knowledge and information will mean these people are out of business very quickly. When I do my treatments I highlight to my clients what I do, what products I use and why. I also tell them (if they are interested) what off-the-shelf products and unprofessional technicians will do.

As a professional I feel it's our duty to help our clients and boost the reputation of our industry, and hopefully more people will be wary about these things.

I do the exact same thing! I have wrote a post on my business page highlighting such issues and to be wary and I stated my qualifications are accredited and products are professional. Just hope those clients don't get injured. I always tell my clients the importance of professional products. Am just shocked it's allowed. My friend who is doing nails done the course and said there was no practical unless she had to travel it. She has more sense not to do nails on public though

I hope that we follow suit with the US who in order to perform the services you have to have a licence (I believe!) and that can only be obtained through accredited bodies like I guess our version of Babtac?

I trained in Hair and Beauty 11 years ago, initially did a combined NVQ, then completed year 2 in beauty and hairdressing 2 separate years apart as I felt I needed to focus on one thing at a time.

I then have then paid many pounds to do hair extension, nail overlay and extension training over the years and recently re did my overlays with another brand to make sure I am up to speed!

Yet Jane Doe down the road has done a distance learning 1 day online nail course and has watched many YouTube videos and has been wearing extensions for many years so she knows how to do them now and charge half of what I do.

I feel the frustration! However I have seen the work so I just sit and wait [emoji4] I always make a point of tagging my products I use as well across all my
social media so hopefully the clients pick up this too and think why doesn't Jane Doe tag her products?!

(Unless she's got them from Sally's [emoji53])

You can set up without any qualifications (uninsured) but will clients continue to pay for nails that will probably only last days? I doubt it.
I'm now content enough that I'm not too concerned about other tech's around me re their work or problems prices but I do get frustrated on here when I see gel polishes etc for £10.
Be proud that you shelled out that money for decent training and can offer a quality service.

Sad to say that's the normal price here, even in an authorised salon. Most salons here charge 10€ for a gel polish without cuticle and 15€ if you include it and/or any nail art, which btw most customers don't!! I just don't understand how they can offer half a treatment and call themselves professionals!!!

No cuticle work? It would just peel off..

no idea what to tell you on how they achieve it
a couple of friends of mine attended a salon before I decided to start myself, and they said they always did this. Most salons here use shellac though, so if no buffing is needed then perhaps it would. No idea honestly... I just know it's happening, not how they manage it

I guess I just feel so deflated just now with practicing on my friends and family for over a year. Spending all that time and effort to develop my skills before I started my own business.

Why feel deflated? You have done it the professional way to become a professional nail tech, be proud!

You have spent over a year practicing because you know it's not something you can learn on a day course, distance learning course etc. with no practical experience.

In all likelihood the people thinking they know enough after a £19 course will fail, or they will end up causing damage to Clients and won't build up a strong base of repeat Clients.

My friends daughter went against my advice and took a course where they only ever used practice hands. After becoming qualified she is now on the verge of giving up as real hands aren't the same! I'm not knocking practice hands, I used one, but they can't compare with real people.

I don't practice hands because although you can good application, you can't check your cuticle prep, which I've recently discovered is my issue. These courses will die of death, hopefully along with these UV lamps you can buy in high street shops.

Got to go with the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

I have been looking into a lot of courses lately and would never dream of looking on a discount/voucher website for educational purposes! (After reading into them in the past there is very little I would use them for TBH, they are really bad for small businesses).

Hey sorry have too ages to read this! Yeah I really hope it becomes tougher here!

Yeah that's how I feel! I know in the long run it will work out better for me because I am doing it the professional way and I have took years to gain my skills still not perfect but I didn't want to crash and burn. Yeah I always comment about the products I use too!

I saw a efile nail bits in one picture [emoji35] I did hear from my friend who knows her better than me that the products I warned my friend about not to use that said person is using them!

I can see them going to her for cheapness but tbh I wouldn't want that sort of clients and they prob won't go back to her after awhile! Am just so shocked this is allowed!

I have no idea how it's allowed. For now my prices are low but I explained it's only until I am confident and happy with the sets but products are all professional. Although I have recently put prices up now because my skills are getting better. That's shocking no cuticle work [emoji35]

Thank you your comment has cheered me up. I really am proud just feels like all the time and money o have spent is a waste although deep down I know it has been worth it! I know she will crash and burn. Yeah I know what you mean. Durning my time when I had my practicing stage I used my hand and real clients my friends my mum etc. I still use my hand to get my speed up.

Thank you everyone for being positive! am so glad I got the rant out!
