hi there

next week i have a new lady that had a heart attack about 2 months ago and now would like nail extentions ,

i have done a patch test on her and that was fine

until i do a client card with her next week i am assuming she will be on a bit of medication so is there any thing different i should do with my application as i dont want them lifting as medi can some times cause this

your expertize required

cheers mi dears xxx

Not had a client with heart probs before, but I always warn people that if they are on strong medication it MAY effect the durability of the enhancements. Everyone reacts differently to medication, some have severe side effects and others don't, it's one of those suck it and see type things.

However I would be interested to hear if there are any contras that you have to be wary for with a client with a heart condition.

Hiya

my mum had a heart attack at the end of last year. I do l & p on 3 of her nails as they were badly damaged by a car door a few years ago and we have had no problems despite the fact she rattles with all the tablets she now takes

Would love to know just what you 'patch tested' her for and with what and why? What was your purpose and what would you have learned from it?

A nail technician should never be patch testing a client! What would you gain from such an excercise? If the client reacted (which I'm sure anyone would to neat monomer on a patch) how would you know what ingredient in the monomer she reacted to? There are many ingredients in monomer alone.

Patch testing is something nail technicians do not do. It is not something we are qualified to do, should do or can do with any meaningful outcome.

Did the company whose products you use recommend such a procedure? If they did, I can't believe it! Very irresponsible. And WHY? Just because someone has a heart condition?? Do tell us your reasoning behind this?

Geeg, you won't be believe this but I'm sure that Professional Beauty Direct state in their insurance policy that you should patch test if doing acrylic nails. I mean who in their right mind does this? I think this is just a way that they can get out of shelling out for any claims - actually that now opens a whole can of worms, my certificate is in the hair salon where I do my permanent makeup so i can't check. But if it's so, does this now mean that we are all paying out for insurance that is immediately null and void? Not sure if I should start a new thread about this.

love to see if this is right Sassy can you let us know.

Thanks Caz xxx

I have to say, although I have never patch-tested, for some reason, it is ringing very loud bells and I have seen it somewhere - and maybe it is as Sassy has said, in Professional Beauty's terms, though I think it was also something that came up way back at college too - will have to check at this end too.

I know what you mean I have heard this before not sure where I was a hairdresser many years ago and know we had to do it and I am not getting mixed up with this!

I am really not sure where I have heard it said.

Geeg,im sorry if I have made you mad hun but back in 91 when i did hair and beauty i was tought to test for reactions to any product you are applying for the first time.

I use creative and love it it bits

Debbie at manchester OSNS has also told me a client must sign for every treatment or insurance may be invalid.

if I do not need to be doing the above please let me know the correct procedure as I value your expertize as I do look up to you gigi.

HI

hmm well i do hair do and yes we do patch test for colours but i certainly don't patch test for nails!!!

If this is in your insurance i think they need educating. Unless you mean you do a test nail first?? And don't actually get any product on soft tissue??

Most people after having a heat attack are on blood thinning meds ,i.e Asprin Clopideral (more asprin) warfarin some people are on all three meds and some only on one or the other.
These meds are all Blood thinning and so the client will bleed more and bruise easily.
:D NOW ALL OF US TRAINED TECHS DON'T MAKE CLIENTS BLEED OR BRUISE THEM :D so other than that I don't think that there are any contraindications.
