So I just watched Roman Holiday for the first time. In it Audrey Hepburn has all of her lovely long locks cut off into a very short curly bob - it looks kind of pixie-ish. Anyway in the scene where she gets the chop, the barber would take a section of her hair and back comb the top of each section once or twice before cutting it. Am I weird for never having seen this before? I assume it softens the line while probably giving it a slight undercut.
Any thoughts?? I'm very curious.

not weird as i've not seen it either?

It stops the cut from being blunt and gives it more of a shaggy look and feel while adding tectured layers

Yea thats what i thought...
Probably good for taking some weight out of curls too I'd imagine.

yes and the curls lol

I love that film but I though that barber was mental. He looked like he was just hacking away. Then remember, tis just a film.

My post7 disa+ppeared from this thread!!!

Its called a backcomb tapercut. We used it in the days before thinning scissors to give that effect.

Oh ok well that makes a lot of sense. So I guess that guy was actually a real barber and not just an actor...
