Good morning All ,

This prob only applies to the Irish geekettes! But any advice / help would be great!! I am working full time in an office and am doing very little nails at the mo - altho I have a client this eve (brand new) I have been doing my own nails on myself to keep up my experience and also to see where I am going wrong (ie is there lifting and after how long etc) I would like to get salon exp maybe on saturdays or late night thurs but it seems to be very hard to get in anywhere without experience - also I dont have to confidence to call up salons and ask them for work as I dont think my nails are salon standard and I would die if they asked me to go and do an interview - maybe i should bite the bullet and say how I feel to them and see can I gain experience even prepping nails etc - has anyone ever been in this situation before? ANY advice or help would be much appreciated

Thanks again
G

Hi Grainne,

Me again! If you're not too confident at the moment have you thought about maybe doing a workshop or two to refine your skills? I know Nail & Beauty Systems Ireland hold some great workshops and if you've actually done their Foundation Course then you can go on a lot of the workshops for free. They also do one to one training (I'm keep meaning to book myself on a one to one with Lousia Flanagan, she won Nail Tech of the year and Nail Salon of the Year and is a FANTASTIC nail tech!), but I can never get a model who is free at the same time as me - I'll get there eventually.

Also, have a look at her website, www.nailandbeautybar.com, there's a link at the bottom 'careers' - you could send in your details and see if they have any part time work available, she has 4 nail & beauty bars around Dublin and I believe a 5th is in progress.

Good luck with your search! And don't forget - get yourself a free mini webpage and free advertising from my other half - get on the 'net!!! www.TheNailDirectory.com
:D

hey Jackie

Thanks have looked at that website and have added my details hopefully something will come back - Also I dont have a website myself - can I just add contact details to the nail directory?!?!? Any help / advice - oh I dont have my hotmail account anymore - [email protected] should get me in case your mailing anything xx

You are obviously looking to gain experience and grow in confidence...why don't you invest in some time by putting a notice in your local newsagent, etc. advertising free nails or for a fiver? This will get you some experience and then you might know better what you need to brush up on (no pun intended) if anything, and then a one to one as Jackie suggests, I am sure your confidence and skill level will grow enormously. The more sets you do, hopefully the better you become or at least you will see the mistakes you are making and will be able to ask your educator how to overcome them. Good Luck!

Thanks Fiona, Yes I think i need to start doing one to one sessions as this would really benefit - I did a clients nails last night and she used to get them done in a really good salon over here and I was SO nervous, I was shaking, she tipped me a tenner in the end so she must have been pleased but I wasnt THAT happy with the nails - I know I've done better and i was making silly mistakes because i was so nervous because she was watching everything i was doing in detail

Grainne, my humblest apologies. I did receive your email but it got lost in the deluge I've received recently. I'll add you to http://www.thenaildirectory.com right away. Sorry about the mix up, Sean

Sean!! Thanks a mill, I noticed you added me - Thanks for the cool name too ;-)
