Guys do you let your staff know what you take each week ? I think it would be a good idea to get my staff a target so if the hit a certain amount of cash each week I will give them a percentage of it.but everyone tells me not to do so as the staff will know what money we take each week and this is not wise? Thanks in advance new salon ownerxx

I would say you should certainly be offering your staff incentives to hit targets but that's very different to telling them your exact takings. That is information just for you not staff.

You must know how much each staff member takes for the salon per week/month? Base a target around increasing that amount, rather than the salon as a whole, but do make it an achievable target. You can change the target dependent upon time of year/month by month etc. Individual targets will likely be better motivators and then you could have a team one that is a percentage - say, if you are 20%up overall on last year, the whole team gets something for that. That way, you don't need to disclose figures.

Me and the senior therapist/ key holder talk about takings and how much we have made and the target each day, but she runs the shop for me for holidays/ odd days off ect and I feel it pushers her to sell more add on treatments and retail to reach our goal, if we have had a slow day. We would never talk about takings in front of the junior, or customers, it is completely private and I only started doing this with her, as she has been with me 2 and half years now, and she became a key holder. She has really helped my business grow, we have been open three years in April.
To be fair, what would it take for a staff member to add up the days treatments and taking on their own at reception ( in a smaller salon) and work it out that way ?
