Hi Geeks,
I,m currently attending college completing my NVQ 3 and am looking for a
voluntary position so I gain experience of the salon.
I have prepared my CV and a cover letter and was going to post out to all the salon,s in my area. A girl at college suggested I hand my letters in by hand as she thought a letter could be put to one side and ignored.
Can I just ask what you would do either see someone face to face, or read CV cover letter and call for a chat.
Don,t want to come across in the wrong way.
Would love some advice
Many Thanks

Definitely go in in person, we don't even look at cvs that come in through the post.

Good luck :)

I absolutely agree. I went into the salon where I worked voluntarily and handed my CV in. The salon owner said she wouldn't have considered me if I hadn't gone in in person.

It's not always the CV that sells - it's you!

I hate to put a dampener on things but I thought it was against the law to take on voluntary workers due to the minimum wage rule and subsequently being uninsured on the premises?

I have lots of people call / pop in and send CV and would love to take them all in but worry about the consequences?

Good luck though!

Wow i hope that,s not the case, I thought salon,s had to have a certain type of insurance to take on vol workers but i,m not sure what thats about. If anyone reads this that,s in the no would like some advice. Thankyou

I have read or heard the very same thing. I'll have to go and research it.
