For those of you who are wondering how to turn Shellac from Super Shiny to the Matt look, it's actually very simple.

Here's what you do...

Base coat, cure
Colour, cure
Colour, cure
Top coat, cure
Wipe with dspearse

Then lightly buff nail with 240/1200 grit file/buffer until surface is matt.
Wipe with dspearse again.
Using dotting tool/ brush, pick up a little top coat and create design on the surface. Cure.
Very lightly wipe with dspearse again.
Bingo..!!

Please note that when you put the last layer of top coat on, make sure you apply a slightly thicker layer so when you buff the nail to make it matt, you don't buff off the colour.

Hope that is clear...?? Enjoy and have fun geeks!!

Thank you so much for sharing

do they last the same?

i would be scared that buffing the TC would makes it more susceptible to service break down :(

Thanks for sharing tho they look fab!! :D x

Sorry to be a party pooper but could u not use a matt top coat ???

I've tried this and no it does not cause service break down :) gorgeous pictures!!!!!!!!

This is a lovely idea - I saw this picture (sorry, I don't know where it originated) and wanted to try it. However all the matte polishes I know of chip so easily.

But I will try this with Blackpool now!

Its the reason why I noted that the top coat should be put on slightly thicker so you have enough top coat to lightly buff off. If you find it hard to apply 1 thick coat of top coat, you can try applying 2 coats of top coats one after another instead.

I am wearing these nails myself and until now has had no problems, bearing in mind that I have not actually changed any structure of the Shellac system at all and have only matted the nail slightly from the top.

I did think of the Matt top coat, but unfortunely I don't have any to try. Also, I would think that doing it with the Shellac top coat will seem a better option because the Shellac system is not altered at all and you know the Shellac top coat is completely protecting the colour.
Using the Shellac top coat also gives you the option of wiping your design off when/if you make a mistake without destroying your already matted nail, where as if you use the matt top coat, you will need to re-apply it everytime you make a mistake before you draw your design on.

Hope that helps.. xx

Hi ya,
I tried this and I apply two layers of top coat. When I buff, I only buff the top of the nail very lighlty and not the free edge, this leaves the seal around the free edge and so far our busy beautician has been wearing these and there is no chipping or service break down....I use the smooth side of the Koala buffer and just very lightly buff off the shine, the Koala buffer has a 1200 grit side absolutely fab for this work xxx

I did try the matte polish but to be honest I prefer the buffed way xxx

Does anyone have more pictures of design done like this? I would love to see them!
